Lone Star Firesnackers

Recipe #376854 | 2¼ hours | 10 min prep | add private note

A spicy, "hot-as-you-want-it" snack cracker. So easy to make and keeps well (if they last). My son-in-law is addicted to these; he even asked for a batch of them for his birthday present.

SERVES 24 (change servings and units)

Ingredients

  • 1 cup vegetable oil

  • 1 (1 1/4 ounce) package hidden valley ranch dressing mix
  • 1/4-1/2 tablespoon cayenne pepper
  • 160 saltine crackers (1 four-sleeve box)

Directions

  1. 1
Empty crackers into a very large bowl.
  2. 2
Mix together the oil, dressing mix and cayenne pepper.(use the recipe amounts or more according to how spicy you want them).
  3. 3
Pour over crackers and toss with hands until all are coated.
  4. 4
Let stand, tossing occasionally until crackers have absorbed all the mixture and are dry.
  5. 5
Store in a zip-lock bag or a large air-tight container.
  6. 6
Note: The cooking time is the approximate standing time.

I didn't know how these would go over so I only made half a batch. What a waste of time. I've had to make them twice since. WE LOVE THEM! Only thing I do differently is I triple the cayenne and add some crushed red pepper flakes. Perfect with chili or anything else you eat a cracker with. we wont eat a plain cracker ever again. Thanks TxBluebonnet. We love em.
