Homemade Flour Tortillas - 2 Ww Points

Recipe #369978 | 35 min | 15 min prep | add private note

A great recipe for healthier flour tortillas. Fill these with beef, chicken, shrimp, and/or veggies. Use sour cream, salsa or guacamole to dip them in. These are also ideal for Nif's Very Basic Cheese Quesadillas or Nif's Healthy Baked Beef Burritos. Enjoy!

SERVES 6 , 6 tortillas (change servings and units)

Ingredients

Directions

  1. 1
Put the flour, shortening, baking powder, and salt in food processor. With the machine running, add the water through the feed tube; process just until a soft dough forms. Divide the dough into 6 pieces and shape each into a ball. Roll each ball out between sheets of plastic wrap into a 6-inch round.
  2. 2
Set a medium nonstick skillet over medium heat and heat until a drop of water sizzles in it. Reduce the heat to medium-low. Add a dough round and cook until speckled and slightly puffed, about 1 1/2 minute on each side. Transfer the tortilla to a plate lined with a clean kitchen towel; fold the towel over to keep the tortilla warm. Cook the remaining dough rounds to make a total of 6 tortillas, stacking them in the towel as they are cooked.
  3. 3
To reheat the tortillas, wrap each one in a separate paper towel or napkin and microwave on High until heated, about 5 seconds for each tortilla.

These had a nice flavor and was very easy to prepare although both DH and I thought they were extra brittle. I only cooked them for 1 min per side and still they just creaked when trying to bend them. It was interesting rolling them between sheets of plastic. I normally just hand press them into circles. Mine came out odd shades, this may explain my pie crust. Thanks for posting.

Muy bien! These tortillas were delicious. I made double the recipe so I could use them for Chicken Enchiladas and found that the ones I rolled thin enough to see through them were the best. Made for the Epicurean Queens, ZWT5: Mexico/Tex-Mex/Southwest. Gracias!

This was a good tortilla recipe. I ran out of ap flour unfortunately and had to use wheat flour for half of the recipe. The tortillas were a little stiff especially around the edges but this is probably due to the wheat flour. I made these for zwt5.
