Herbes De Provence Spread (For Bread)

Recipe #359936 | 15 min | 5 min prep | add private note

I mixed this up one night when I didn't want plain old garlic bread with dinner. We love it.This may be mixed and stored in the fridge, or spread on bread slices and frozen for future use. The cheese is optional, and I have used provolone slices and shredded mozzarela as well. I'm sure it would be good with just about any mellow, melty cheese. Yu could change up the bread to French or Italian. I have a little crock of this in my fridge, and I use it on green beans and baked potatoes as well. It's very versatile!

SERVES 6 -8 , 12 slices (change servings and units)

Ingredients

  • 1 loaf sourdough bread
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened (or margarine)
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 tablespoons herbes de provence
  • 6 slices white American cheese (optional)

Directions

  1. 1
Preheat oven to 450 degrees (F).
  2. 2
Slice bread evenly into 12 slices.
  3. 3
Mix butter, garlic powder, and herbes de Provence until the herbs are evenly mixed throughout.
  4. 4
Spread butter mixture thickly on one side of each slice of bread.
  5. 5
If you're using the cheese, place it on the bread now, on top of the butter mixture.
  6. 6
Toast about 10 minutes, or until the edges of the bread are golden brown, and the cheese and butter have melted.
  7. 7
    Enjoy!
  8. 8
Note: If you freeze, after you spread the butter on the bread, place the slices back together, and wrap in plastic then foil. If you toat the bread from frozen, you will need to add a few minutes to make sure it isn't cold in the middle.
