The name "Recipezaar" is a combination of the words "recipe" and "bazaar". A "bazaar" is a place where people gather to exchange goods, and that's just what Recipezaar is — with respect to recipes.
back to topThe Terms of Service Agreement is the legal document that you agree to by using the site. Is it linked to from every page of the site and can be found here: Terms of Service. Basically it says you won't do anything illegal or harmful to Recipezaar and its members.
back to topHere are the specialized phrases we have developed over the years:
bump = posting in a topic to get it to "bump" to the top of the list of topics in the forum, to bring it to everyone's attention again
CC = an abbreviation for the Community Cafe Forum
elves = the "elves" are the special little people that run Recipezaar, who toil long and hard into the night making Recipezaar better with surprise features and fixes
newbie = a new person on the site, especially as related to the cute little titles under people's posts in the Forums
sticky = the topics that management sticks to the top of the forum for everyone to see
zaar = shorthand for Recipezaar
cookathon = a Recipezaar community organized cooking event where participants cook Recipezaar recipes from a particular theme during a set time period (usually a weekend) and post lots of recipe reviews
RSC (Ready Set Cook) = a Recipezaar recipe contest where the previous winner selects a set of ingredients and participants create original recipes using at least 5 ingredients
We are constantly improving Recipezaar and adding new features. We have received many great suggestions from our members, including the following commonly requested items which are on our Big List of Stuff to do:
All the content on Recipezaar is protected by copyright, so you need permission, but Recipezaar generally grants free reprint permission to anyone, especially non-profit projects, as long as you follow a couple of guidelines established by our lawyers. Contact us with your proposal, and we'll get back to you with the guidelines and a release to use the recipes.
However, if the recipe is one that you posted on Recipezaar, you do not need permission.
No, recipes want to be free!
You can access and print all the recipes you want for free, forever. Some features of Recipezaar (personalization features or posting content, etc.) require registration, but registration is FREE too! Recipezaar makes money from the advertising shown on the site.
(In the future, some existing capabilities of the site and/or new capabilities of the site may require a fee; however, you will be given ample warning before you lose any capabilities you already enjoy, and accessing recipes will always be free.)
