DD and DH liked this salad (I didn't eat any because of allergy issues). They said it wasn't real sweet like a regular jello salad but was just about right. I also used sugar free jello as that is what I had on hand. Thanks for posting this Kitty! Made for Fall PAC 2009.

Loved this salad. I used regular jello (not sugar free), fat free sour cream and low fat cottage cheese. I also used a 11 ounce can of mandarin oranges, well drained before adding. I was please with the end product. For myself, I'd not add sugar. Thank you for posting and I'll make this again. Made for Every DAY Is A Holiday 2009 game

When I tagged this in "Everyday is a Holiday" I was a bit thrown by the directions saying to stir in the fruit before serving. To me a jello salad is firm set so I added the orange and banana after the cottage cheese, sour cream and jello were blended so they could set together. I now know why it says to add the fruit before serving, it never sets, lol. I would call it a dessert instead of a salad as it's a thin pudding or thick sauce consistency. I didn't want the cottage cheese lumps so I processed the cheese, jello and sour cream for 2-3 mins but it still has "grit" in it. I'm not really sure if it's cottage cheese grit or jello grit that never dissolved because it wasn't dissolved first. I tend to think the latter. The flavor and fruit are quite nice and not at all sweet. In fact. if you have a sweet tooth I'd suggest that you add sugar to taste.
