Easy Hair Gel--Medium Hold

Recipe #378389 | 3¼ hours | 10 min prep | add private note

After wanting to try this, I finally had the courage. Good grief, I bought two pounds of gelatin for $.59/lb. several years ago. I've had a lot of experience making home made cosmetics and soap and that experience has served me well here. Why on earth have I waited so long to do this? Enjoy! NOTE: Cooking time is cooling time. You may use isopropyl or ethyl alcohol; the recipe format didn't allow that note.

SERVES 25 , 7 ounces (change servings and units)

Ingredients

Directions

  1. 1
    Simmer the water.
  2. 2
    Sprinkle gelatin over the water.
  3. 3
Cook for five minutes, stirring occasionally.
  4. 4
    Cool.
  5. 5
Refrigerate for two hours or until firm.
  6. 6
Add alcohol (to preserve) and stir well.
  7. 7
Does not need refrigeration to keep, but do store in a covered container.
  8. 8
You may add fine glitter to a small amount of the gel in order to dress up your hair.
  9. 9
You may adjust the gelatin to increase or decrease the hold. I recommend no less than 2 tablespoons.

I am going to try this ASAP! My daughter just left for camp and took my hair gel with her. It's in the nineties here with high humidity and I have naturally curly hair. OH THE HUMANITY!!! I am going to try adding a little scent to it, so cross your fingers that it will work! Thanks for posting.
