For those that like fresh tart and tangy and getting a buzz! I had lots of big, fresh, juicy grapefruit and wanted a margarita so I came up with this. I used 4 grapefruits getting almost 4 cups of juice.

SERVES 8 (change servings and units)

Ingredients

  • 2 cups ice cubes
  • 3 1/2-4 cups fresh grapefruit juice
  • 1 1/2 cups tequila
  • 1 cup triple sec
  • campari, for color and bitterness optional (optional) or grenadine, for color and sweetness (optional)

Directions

  1. 1
Blend all ingredients in a blender.
  2. 2
Serve in a salt rimmed margarita glass filled with ice. Or a brown sugared rimmed glass.
  3. 3
Top with a slash of Campari or grenadine.
  4. 4
    Garnish with a grapefruit wedge.

I really wanted to like this drink, as I love margaritas and I've been enjoying drinks with grapefruit juice lately, and it was very pretty. I cut the recipe down to make one and used pink grapefruit with just a little bit of grenadine. At first I thought it was pretty good, fairly mild as far as the juice flavor - not the usual complexity of a lime margarita, but the more I drank of it the less the citrus flavor was there and the alcohol flavors dominated, it actually started to bother my stomach and I couldn't finish it. I would like to try mixing grapefruit with lime and see what the result would be. Made for New Kids on the Block Tag.

I didn't use a blender cause mine is broken. So I used a shaker. For the sweetness and color I added a dash of simple syrup and a drop of red food coloring. This is great We loved it. Thanks Rita
