British Beans on Toast

Recipe #376934 | 3 min | 1 min prep | add private note

By: BBCFan

Great snack to much on while watching your favorite British programs. Drink with Strongbow cider . . . Tip: DO NOT USE AMERICAN Pork & Beans, Boston Baked Beans or "Bush's Beans" etc... ONLY Heinz or Batchelor's brand please, otherwise it might be gross. Don't worry - most American grocery stores sell HEINZ and BATCHELOR'S, in the International/European/English/Irish aisle. I've been all over the US and found them in Safeway, Kroger, Stop & Shop, etc... I've never not been able to find one of those 2 brands in the USA.

2 Toasts (change servings and units)

Ingredients

  • 2 slices bread (white is traditional, but I use low-carb rye)

  • 1 (220 g) can of heinz baked beans in tomato sauce (both products come in a blue can, DO NOT USE AMERICAN Pork & Beans or "Bush's Beans" etc... ONLY Hei) or batchelor's baked beans in tomato sauce (both products come in a blue can, )
  • worcestershire sauce

Directions

  1. 1
    Toast bread.
  2. 2
In a span, heat up the beans. Spoon onto toast and top worcestershire sauce. (You could use parmesean cheese too).
  3. 3
    ENJOY!

Real comfort food! Just a thought for those of you making this lovely snack. It's also very good if you spread the toast with some cheese spread, or a slice of processed cheese. You can also sprinkle on some grated cheese before you spoon on the beans. Always under the beans so the cheese goes nice and gooey!

I think Heinz baked beans on toast must be the number one snack food in the UK. I made mine with brown bread buttered with Kerrygold butter and a dash of HP Sauce. Pure comfort food. Thanks BBCFan for a great breakfast.

Used Heinz veg baked beans over 2 slices of homemade white bread. Also fried up a couple of eggs to go alongside. Love the yolk and beans together. Topped mine with a little HP sauce. Made for PAC fall 2009.
