Boston Brown Bread

My cousin Shawn Michael bkaes this bread fresh every morning and serves it at his pub the Boar's Head in Tully Ireland

SERVES 20 -30 , 4 Loaves (change servings and units)

Ingredients

    Mix flours, conrmeal, baking powder, saltand soda in a large bowl
  2. 2
    stir in buttermilk, molasses, shortening and raisins until very well mixed.
  3. 3
    Spoon batter into 4 well greased1 pound vegetable or fruit cans.
  4. 4
    Cover with foil and tie with a string.
  5. 5
    Place cans on rack in a dutch oven or large saucepan.
  6. 6
    pour boiling water until halfways up sides of cans.
  7. 7
    cover and simmer for 3 hours.
  8. 8
    pour in more water if nessacary.
  9. 9
    remove from dutch oven and remove foil.
  10. 10
    cool in cans for 10 minutes then invert cans.
