This is a Caribbean version of steak and onions which is popular in the Dominican Republic. This is great served with rice and a nice green salad!

SERVES 4 (change servings and units)

Ingredients

Directions

  1. 1
In a small bowl, combine salt, pepper, oregano, garlic and one tablespoon of the olive oil. Mix together to form paste and rub the paste on both sides of the steak.
  2. 2
Heat a large non-stick skillet over medium-high heat. Add one tablespoon of olive oil. Add the steaks and cook until browned, about 2 minutes per side. Remove to a plate and set aside.
  3. 3
Add the last tablespoon of olive oil to same skillet and reduce heat to medium. Add the sliced onion, stirring frequently to scrape up any browned bits. Cook until onions are soft, about 10 minutes.
  4. 4
    Stir in apple cider vinegar.
  5. 5
Slice steak into thin strips and return meat and any juices back to skillet with onions. Stir to heat through. Serve!

We really enjoyed this recipe! I love the peppery rub that gives an otherwise kind of bland piece of meat a nice flavor. Add the onions on top and you've got a great dish! Made for ZWT5 for Ali Baba Babes

This was very good, although i would prefer more flavor for the onions, so I think I would try making a bit more of the rub and cook it with the onions next time. Made for the Epicurean Queens ZWT5: Caribbean.

This was great tasting & easy to make. I used sirloin because I had one in the freezer that needed to be used. I also think that with the short cooking time, the round steak might have been tough. The sirloin worked out great, with a flavor that cried out to be eaten again. We will oblige it too. Served this with Squash and Tomato Galette for a great tasting meal. Thanks again Kim127 for a great recipe. Made for ZWT5.

Yum, made this for 2. Served with Caribbean Rice in a Rice Cooker. I think I like a better cut of meat than what we had, but doesn't take away from the simple and ease of this recipe. Thank you for posting. Made for ZWT 5.
