Have you tried new OJ?

I bought a carton of a new (to me) product today because my regular OJ was not available. I normally prefer less-processed and unprocessed foods, but decided to get this. The 50% less sugar and 50% fewer calories appealed to me. It's called "Trop-50", a Tropicana line of juice which, judging from the label, is watered down OJ with stevia and a few other things (malic acid and such, nothing too freaky). I have not tried it yet, but I got to wondering if anyone else has, and what you think of it.

Thanks. I was beginning to think I was the only one who ever bought it! I still have not opened mine. I'll have to try it tomorrow.

I bought it once and I thought it was "OK." I've found, though, that I really don't care for stevia - yes, I can taste it. However, my orange juice consumption mainly consists of a half cup in my fruit smoothies.
Also, the carton is just enough taller than the "standard" OJ cartons that it's really too tight a fit in the orange juice spot in our fridge.

This or Florida's Natural are our family favorites.

Stevia is the first non sugar sweetener that I actually tasted and thought - oh that is delicious! (I have only tried the Truvia brand)
I have 0 problem getting my kid to eat things with stevia in it. I would OJ made with it would taste good although I would rather have unsweetened OJ.

Well, I'm sitting here trying my first glass, and I have to say I am not impressed. It tastes watered-down to me. It is less acidic, which is good for me, but it just tastes like a juice drink with pulp in it. I'm glad it was on sale, but I don't think I'd buy it again. Thanks for all the feedback.

It can always make a nice ice cube for punch or a mimosa

For fewer calories, I cut regular orange juice (and grape juice) with water. Much cheaper.

That is
exactly what I do but not for cost cutting reasons. I have hypoglycemia and drinking full strength juice spikes my blood sugar; a doctor told me to just cut the juice in 1/2 with water and I'd be "good to go." I've been doing it for years now and it works for me. Plus, it's like buying TWO cartons of juice for the price of one...which I guess
is "cheaper".

Well, we have an old - and I do mean old - juicer (the kind that takes 1/2 a piece of citrus) and we just do our oranges that way. Fresh OJ. Never did like processed. Occasionally we'll get OJ out and what is served tastes nothing like orange juice - more like an orange drink. So, guess I'll stick to the real thing. Liza
