WELCOME TO ZAAR TAG!
If you haven't ever played before, you've been missing out on a lot of fun! Just like any tag game you may have played as a kid, Zaar Tag involves "tagging" recipes. Here are the instructions on how to play followed by the current game itself. Anyone can play...and you can join the game at any time...read the rest of this message for instructions, then jump to the last page to start playing.
How to Play Zaar Tag
SHORT VERSION
1.Find out who is IT
2.Tag one of IT's unreviewed recipes
3.Make & review that recipe within two weeks from the date of your tag.
4.Report back to this thread when the review for the recipe has posted so we can update the Status List.
Detailed Rules of Play:
STEP ONE: Find out who is IT and tag a recipe
Someone will currently be "IT." To find out who is currently "IT," jump to the last page of this thread and look through the posts - usually whoever is currently "it" will be named and it will say "Chef such-and-such is IT."
To play, click on the arrow next to "IT's" Zaar-name and select “My Recipes.” In some cases, players have created public cookbooks with all of their unreviewed recipes and will provide a link in their post.
Find a recipe in "IT's" recipe list or cookbook that you would like to make that HAS NOT ALREADY BEEN REVIEWED or TAGGED. Make a note of the recipe name & ID#
Come back to the Zaar Tag thread and check the Master Status List of Tagged Recipes to see if the recipe you selected has already been tagged. If it has already been tagged, then you will need to reselect. If it has not been tagged already, then post a reply to the Zaar Tag thread to say that you have "tagged" a recipe. Provide the name of the recipe and the ID#. Please use the following format: "Tagging......persons name.......recipe name (in link format).....recipe #.""
The easiest way to do this is to type “Recipe # XXXX” without the space between # and the number (XXXX) followed by the recipe number without the word recipe in front.
As long as someone else didn't already tag one of "IT's" recipes before you did, then you will now be come "IT" and the next person who wants to play will select one of your unreviewed & untagged recipes to try.
STEP TWO: Try the recipe and report your results
Once you have "tagged" a recipe successfully, you have agreed to prepare & review that recipe within two weeks from the date you tagged it. Once you have tried the recipe, report back in this thread that you have made the recipe. Use the same format as when you tagged the recipe (see above), and PLEASE include due date or tagged date. Then, post a review on Recipezaar for that recipe, try and type 'Made for ZaarTag' somewhere in your review then others will know that it was made while playing the game.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
Who can play Zaar Tag?
Any Recipezaar member may participate that has a minimum number of 10 unrated recipes. The reason you must have 10 unrated recipes is so that one of your recipes can get tagged after you have selected a recipe. If you aren't already a member of Recipezaar, please go to the HOME PAGE and join!
How do I find out who is "IT?"
Go to the final page of this thread - find the most recent message declaring who is currently "It."
What type of recipe can I select?
Any unreviewed recipe from the current "IT's" recipe list that has not already been tagged for the game is an eligible recipe. A recipe which has received comments without a rating is eligible for tagging in this game.
I tagged a recipe, but can't meet the two week deadline. What do I do?
Request an EXTENSION. If you are unable to make one of the recipes you have tagged, then you can post a message requesting an extension. ANY reason qualifies for an extension - you couldn't find an ingredient, family matters, too much work to do, etc. No explanation needed, but please let us know that you need to postpone the recipe deadline. Extensions are granted for 10 days without question. If you need more time than that, please z-mail one of the game room hosts.
I tagged a recipe, but changed my mind - can I pick a different recipe?
Make a SUBSTITUTION. Yes - sometimes you tag a recipe and then later realize that you just won't be able to make it - either you are having significant ingredient issues or just don't have time for that particular recipe. Please select a different recipe from the same person's recipe list that you originally tagged - it still must be an unreviewed & untagged recipe. Then post a reply to this thread asking for a substitution, and please supply the recipe name & ID#.
What if I miss the deadline, but I don't want to request either an extension or a substitution? I just don't want to play anymore.
We really hope this won't happen, but if you really won't be able to make a recipe you've tagged and you really don't want to extend or sub, then please let us know that you want out of your tag so we can "un-tag" that recipe so someone else can tag it. If you miss a deadline and don't choose an extension or substitution, then please do not tag any more recipes until you complete your tag.
What happens to overdue tags?
Tags that are late are placed on the Don’t be blue, your tag’s overdue list. You can easily avoid this by requesting an extension before the original due date. After 10 days, recipes that are past the original or extended due dates are place on the list (see below).
What is the list?
Your name will show up here if you are past either the original or extended due date for your tag. We really don’t want to see anyone on this list. In fairness to the other players in the game, we hope that everyone completes their tags before this point. While you are still allowed to play, our hope is that you will first complete your outstanding tags.
If after 10 days and your tag commitment has still not been met you will fall to the RESTRICTED list (see below) and you will NOT be allowed to play in the Game Room again until you clear your name and the review has been posted.
What is the RESTRICTED list?
Your name will show up here if you are more than 20 days late on reviewing any recipe that you have tagged (either the original or extended due date). YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO PLAY AGAIN UNTIL YOU HAVE REVIEWED THE RECIPE AND CLEARED YOUR NAME! This will be strictly enforced and the tagged recipes will be released to be tagged in the regular game.
What happens if several people tag the same player in a row?
This is all part of the fun of the game - you need to be quick and tag a recipe before someone else does. Whoever posts first wins the tag and becomes "IT."
I thought I successfully tagged a recipe, but when I came back to check in, I found out my tag was invalid. What does this mean?
Sometimes you mistakenly select a recipe that has either already been tagged or reviewed already. This means your tag is invalid and you will need to reselect again. Sometimes a player ahead of you mistags, affecting your tag as well as any others that were in the current chain of tags. In such cases, we try our best to preserve as many of the tags in the affected chain by asking the person who mistagged to reselect another recipe before another player comes along to tag the person who had been "IT" at the time of the mistag.
What is a Pinch-Hit?
Well, a Zaar Tag Pinch-Hit is an emergency step to fill in a gap. If a player who had been "IT" was accidentally overlooked and his/her recipe never got selected, we may ask for a volunteer to select a recipe from the overlooked player's list. A recipe for a Pinch-Hit can be any recipe from that player's list - even if it has already been reviewed or tagged, although we ask that you try to pick an unreviewed recipe. When you agree to be the Pinch-Hitter for a missing tag, then you are also agreeing to meet the two-week deadline.
I already tagged a recipe this week, but can I still tag additional recipes?
Absolutely - sometimes you want to tag a whole menu's worth of recipes. As long as you think you'll be able to prepare all those recipes by their deadlines, tag away. There is no limit to the number of times you play tag as long as you can meet the deadlines for preparing & reviewing the recipes you have selected. However, there is an exception to this rule. All is asked is that you please do not monopolize the game with constant tagging. For example, if you are "it" and get tagged, you tag back, and are "it" again, get tagged and you tag back again, to continually do this would be considered monopolizing the game and could require a host to step in and put a limit on your tagging. This is only an exception and rarely happens.
I tagged a recipe and have already made & reviewed it before the deadline. Can I tag another recipe?
Yes - see the above question.
What if a player has lots of recipes posted, but there aren't many unreviewed/untagged ones left to chose from?
If a player falls below 10 unreviewed/untagged recipes, then that player may tag once while awaiting publication of more recipes for up to 5 days. We do ask that if you have very few unreviewed recipes available, that you please post a few more recipes as soon as possible to make more choices available.
Can I claim "first dibs" on a player who is IT?
No - dibs are not allowed. If you really want to tag a particular player's recipe, you need to be the first one to tag a specific recipe. You can't say ;Oh! I want to tag Jane. I am IT!" You must first have a recipe selected: "Oh! I want to tag Jane's Meatloaf ID#ABCD. I am IT!"
Help! I tagged a recipe but I can't remember the date it is due!
No problem - simply take a look at the Master Status List where all tagged recipes will be listed, including the dates they are due. Once you have reported back to this thread about a tagged recipe, the Status List will be updated to reflect that you have either made the recipe, or asked for an extension or substitution. Random Jump-Ins and Pinch-Hits will also be listed there are well.
But the Master Status List is sooo long. How can I find the recipe I am looking for?
Go to the beginning of the Master Status List and then press your CONTROL key and then, while still holding it down, press the letter "F" - a search window will pop up where you can type in the recipe name or your name and it will find it for you.
Help! I made a recipe I had successfully tagged, but when I went to post a review, I noticed that someone else has recently reviewed the recipe. Does this mean I need to reselect?
No - this often happens. As long as the recipe was a valid tag (i.e. unreviewed/untagged) at the time you selected it, then it still counts for the game even if someone else posts a review before you get a chance to. You don't have to reselect.
Who is reffing this game?
Our host for this game is Sharon123, with assistance from game room hosts ~Nimz~, justcallmetoni, andi of longmeadow farm, and Lauralie41. The hosts take turns updating the master lists. When things get confusing, they will also sort things out and make a determination in order to set things straight. If players work to resolve things between host check-ins, they should be sure to consult Page 1 for the rules which apply to the situation.
If you have not played for a while, please check the RESTRICTED LIST before proceeding to insure you have no outstanding tags.
*PLEASE NOTE*
New rule starting Dec. 01, 2007:
In playing this game, you are implicitly agreeing to accept the necessity of a re-tag if you make a mistake and tag a recipe that is not eligible, or if you tag a recipe and then find you can't make it for any reason, or if you tag the wrong chef. This means that, for example, if by mistake you choose a recipe that has reviews, you agree to go ahead and choose another recipe by the same chef to replace the tag that is invalid. Another example: if you choose a recipe by Chef A when Chef B was the one who was currently due to be tagged, you agree to go back and choose a recipe by Chef B to replace your tag of Chef A. Also, if you choose a recipe that has already been tagged, you agree to go back and re-select a recipe by the chef you tagged.
This keeps the game from coming to a halt while people wait to see what happens. In addition, if the mistake is not caught before follow-up tags occur, the re-tag rule helps avoid a snarl where a string of people could find their tags invalidated because 1 person drops the ball in the middle of the process.
Exception: If you make a goof in your tag but correct or withdraw it before anybody else follows up by tagging you, then your tag is simply ignored and does not count as a mistag. Be aware, however, that other players are not required to wait around and see whether you're going to do this; at any time, if you haven't withdrawn, they can go ahead and tag you, because they know you have implicitly agreed to re-tag.)
Old List is gone Dec. 01, 2007:
OVERDUE TAGS
This list is for those tags that are more than 10 days past their due date but less than 20 days past or that have a deadline extension. (Once you are on this list please do not ask for an extension as you will not get one...you've had enough time to ask before!) Perhaps you made the recipe and forgot to do the review, please do it ASAP before you go on the RESTRICTED LIST.
