In the ACT, we have devon, berliner and bologna. They're all similar.
I think bologna (which is hard to find) tastes the nicest.
Fritz is the equivalent of one of those, and is the name used in South Australia.

The picture I posted is actually bologna, but I thought they were similar enough for me to get away with it icon_wink.gif

Does anyone else make their own cheesy-mite rolls? Maybe that's a recipe I should post! I also do vegemite palmiers when lazy and wanting 'movie night' snacks.

Mischka, can you explain what cheesy-mite rolls and vegemite palmiers are? They sound yummy! icon_biggrin.gif Also, what is fritz?

Don't get me started on the difference between devon & fritz.... Or the difference between bung fritz and the commercial ones... icon_rolleyes.gif icon_wink.gif

Cheesy-mite rolls are a type of savoury scroll bread roll. It is prepared by rolling the dough flat & spreading with vegemite and grated cheese then rolling up like a scroll. You then do the final prove and bake. A bakery franchise, Baker's Delight, first made them (I think).

A vegemite palmier is similar except that you use prepared puff pastry cut into half lengthways, then spread with vegemite. You then fold the 2 sides in to meet in the middle (encasing the vegemite) and then fold in half. You then slice this into thin pieces, say 1cm thick, and place with cut sides up on a tray and bake. When the pastry expands you get a kind of heart shaped savoury. They are just a variation on the more traditional ones with just sugar & cinnamon; mushroom or pesto style fillings.

Yum! icon_biggrin.gif Thanks for the information, everyone. I am a Kiwi so was a bit confused by all these terms! icon_lol.gif

Can you buy Vegemite/Marmite potato chips in Australia? I used to love those in the 1970s, but I'm not sure if you can still get them in NZ these days, as I live in California now.

I actually pre-mix the butter and vegemite together and store it in a plastic container to save time! Even tho' it's only me at home I still hate getting butter in the vegemite jar!

Jewelies, I managed to find some suppliers of those Walkers Marmite-flavoured potato chips (made in Britain) here in the USA! icon_biggrin.gif Probably won't taste the same as the Kiwi ones did, but I'm going to get some to try.

This place sells many Walkers chip flavours, including tomato ketchup-flavoured chips. I remember an equivalent of those back in the 1970s in NZ too! Memoriiiiieeees....

That looks like quite a good site! Mum always bought Rose's Marmalade and I do remember Cadbury Curly Wurly bars.

I think I remember the tomato ketchup chips too! But I don't remember the marmite ones. My favourite has always been salt and vinegar icon_redface.gif icon_lol.gif

Oh I love salt and vinegar chips!!! Luckily you can buy a few brands of those here in the USA. Gorgeous!

I found a wonderful page with a TON of British food suppliers selling all sorts of yummy things. Some are located in the USA, Canada, and some are in Britain. Some have physical stores you can visit and some are online stores, and some of them will ship worldwide.

I'm so happy I found this link! Also very happy I found the 2 links I posted back on page 2 of this thread, for Aussie/Kiwi suppliers here in the USA. A kind lady from Recipezaar who is married to a Kiwi (she lives in my area) emailed them to me and I'm forever grateful to her. icon_biggrin.gif I can now buy Allen's bananas and malt biscuits to make Lolly Cake!!! icon_biggrin.gif Unfortunately there is no USA equivalent to Fruit Puffs, bananas, eskimos, and I don't want to use mini marshmallows as they're just not the same.

I hate chicken and barbecue flavour (in anything) yuck.gif
