C'mon! Give it up! I know you got your grannies' recipes squirreled away in those ancient 3 x 5 card boxes! Let's have 'em!
Seriously, I love these old family recipes and would be grateful for any that you wish to share. My mom used to make a fantastic
Slumgullion and I wish I still had the recipe but I don't. Her
corned beef hash was equally great. Plain family cooking (but
good cooking) on a budget.
But I like all sorts of old recipes, especially the geeky ones from the 50s (
Perfection Salad , anyone? Yes, I know PS came from much earlier than the 50s.
).
Hot dog casseroles and all that other good stuff!
Bring it on!

here's one BM my friend !!
My grandma had this recipe from when she got married and it was from her grandma. Now I am thinking tht this recipe now may be close to 100 yrs old. It has been handed down through the generations.

Grandma's cooking was fabulous , but she rarely used a recipe. She just made them. Some of the most delicious meals were her chicken fried steak and gravy, fried chicken, mashed potatoes, southern green beans with bacon, black eyed peas and cornbread, chicken and noodles (noodles from scratch), oyster stew, baked ham, pot roast, roast beef hash, fried cornmeal mush, fresh apple cake, Italian Cream cake, pudding, biscuits, and the most fabulous cream and meringue pies you ever ate. Instead of "salad" she always served a "relish tray", which would always include some raw veggies like sliced tomatoes, carrot and celery sticks, bread and butter pickles, etc.
In her later years, she traded some recipes with people, and made these quite a bit. She shared them with me:
Special Meat Loaf with Heinz 57 Sauce

Chicken Spaghetti a la Grandma Key

Strawberry Banana Gelatin Salad With Pecans

Great thread! I'm still working on compiling some of our family recipes...you know the kind, no one measures anything so you have to make it a couple of times to get the recipe written down correctly.
Here are a few that are finished:

Tortilla Cheese Casserole

Actually, I am the grandma that hands down the recipes
Here are some from my Mom
New England Fish Chowder
recipe #86560
Meatball Soup
recipe #74832
and this one was given to me by a darling older couple
Mandel Skorpor
recipe #86160
The Meatball Soup is very nourishing and great tasting as well. I think it's very similiar to what some people call Italian Wedding Soup.
