Have gotten many emails requesting this plan. Thanks!
For anyone who is interested, and hasn't seen my soup post, it's
Basic Fat Burning Soup
Day One: Eat all fruits except bananas. Melons are lower in calories. Eat only soup and fruit today. For drinks, choose unsweetened tea (although I don't think that adding Equal or Spleda would be of any harm), cranberry juice, water or black coffee.
Day Two: You may eat all veggies as you wish: raw, fresh or canned. Try to eat leafy veggies and stay away from dry beans, peas and corn. Eat the soup with this. At dinnertime, you can have a baked potato, with butter. NO FRUIT TODAY!
Day Three: Eat all the soup, fruit and veggies you wish. NO BAKED POTATO. If you have followed this diet faithfully the past 3 days, you may have lost 5-7 lbs by now.
Day Four: Bananas and skim milk today, up to 3 bananas and drink alot of H20 as well, along with the soup. Bananas are high in carbs as well as the milk; and your body will need potassium, carbs, protein and calcium to lessen your cravings for sweets. Eat as much soup, fruit and veggies.
Day Five: You can eat 10-20 ounces of beef and either a can of tomatoes or all the fresh tomatoes you wish. Try to drink 6-8 glasses of H20 to wash away the uric acid in your body. Eat the soup at least once today.
Day Six: Eat beef and veggies til your hearts content. You may eat 2 or 3 steaks if you wish, and all the green leafy veggies. NO BAKED POTATO WITH THE STEAK! (I know it's tempting!) Eat the soup at least once today.
Day Seven: You can eat brown rice, unsweetend fruit juice and veggies. And be sure to have the soup at least once today.
By the end of the 7th day, if you have not cheated, you may have lost 10-17 lbs. If you have lost more than 10 lbs, stay off the diet for 2 days before resuming the diet again for one day.
You will have more energy after around the 3rd day and your craving for caffiene should reduce around the same time.
If you have constipation, eat a cup of bran or fiber.
NO-NO'S: bread, alcohol, carbonated drinks (even diet sodas!), fried foods.
You may substitue broiled or baked skinless chicken for the beef.
Everyday, eat as much as you want, until you are stuffed, but eat only what the plan calls for that day. The soup can be eaten anytime you are hungry.
I STRESS THIS: Please follow this diet wisely; after the 7 days are up, please incorporate healthy foods, choosen from all food groups, into your daily food intake. Eating from all food groups is very important for your health and body. Follow this diet as needed; you are all smart cookies and know how to follow this diet wisely!

Well, this diet won't hurt you in the short term, but you're really just losing water weight, and eating so much fiber that you will spend quite some time in the bathroom!
And by the end of day two you'll be so sick of that soup you may never want to see another bowl of soup again.
Been there, done that... in 1987.

Thanks, Tracy, for your input.
I posted this diet because I have had many requests for this plan; members who have looked up my soup recipe.
Of course, it's just water weight. But it is a great way to jump start a diet or lifestyle plan of eating to take off some extra pounds prior. I have informed any viewer that is interested in this plan to use this diet wisely and incorporate healthy foods from every food group thereafter.

Hi, Cammie. Great job on the 16lbs you've lost! I lost 10lbs, from April 1st thru mid June, mostly just from exercising! I actually even "look" as if I've lost more than 10; the exercising is really toning my body nicely. They say...muscle weighs more than fat! I don't weigh myself much; I just go by how I feel, what I look like in the mirror and how my clothes fit; I'm probably less discouraged this way! I still need work on my eating habits. There are too many recipes on Zaar I love to try and make for my family!
The Cabbage Soup diet is a great way to "kick start" a healthy lifestyle of eating. I hope this plan works out for you!

Cabbage soup doesn't contain any protean.
I went on a long diet and ate each of these different kinds of soup at random = cabbage, mustard greens, turnip greens, green beans, & tomato, or a combination there of.
I put cooked rice in the soup. and the beans, after they were cooked for the protean.
I also ate all sorts of beans cooked from scratch using dried beans = again for the protean.
My super secret was that I used Tones Chicken Soup Base that comes in cold cream like plastic containers, and is sold at Sam's Club. Tones has salt in it, so if you have to watch your salt intake, this may not be for you. If you search, you can also find a Tones site on the Web.
I used Tones to season the food and make it taste like it had meat in it. It comes in chicken & beef, and I use mostly chicken. Then I used the usual seasonings that you would put in soup, Green pepper, celery, parsley, etc.
I never added any oil to my diet. I was told that just about all food has it's natural oils, and extra oil is not necessary.
In the mornings I ate dried cereal with skim milk, with no sugar, but I did use artificial sweetener.
I took two complete vitamin & mineral tablets a day, and one calcium tablet.
I ate all the fruit & veggies I wanted, as long as I didn't go over my total calorie limit per day.
I drank tea, sodas, coffee, and lemonade with artificial sweetener.
I drank 8 = 8 ounce glasses of water a day, to keep my kidneys flushed out.
I ate not more, or less then 1200 calories a day TOTAL
I was hardly ever hungry during the diet. You just don't realize how big the portions of food were for you to eat.
I always ate a combination of the foods above every day, except maybe for the rice & beans. Some days I would eat one or the other.
I tried to walk 3 times a week, for 20 minutes, but wasn't too faithful at this. I really think that the exercise is the catylist for weght loss though. Pity I couldn't do it faithfully.
I lost about 60 pounds in six months

Thank you, Cajun Joe, for sharing your diet with us!
The Cabbage Soup 7 day diet plan has been posted here by request of the Recipezaar staff, who recieved many requests for this 7 day plan.
As I said before, this Cabbage Soup Diet is not a long term plan. I think it's great to jump start a "healthy way of eating to lose weight" or using this diet for something special, like a lady who needs to fit into a cocktail dress or someone who needs to shed fast pounds for a vacation.
And although, the soup itself may not contain protein, there is red meat or chicken in Day 5 and 6 of this plan; when your body is ready and needs the protein.
The soup recipe can be used with the 7 Day Plan, or for anyone who loves a good, low fat, chock full of veggie soup.

Hi, thank you for posting the soup recipe, I really needed a jump start. The "soup" diet is really a great way to get a head start on the dreaded diet track. It sure makes you appreciate regular diet plans. I tried this plan about 3 years ago with a 1 week on and 1 week off rotation and lost 40 lb.s in 12 weeks with the following results: week :
week 1: lost 10 lbs. week 2: "free week"
week 3: lost 10 lbs. week 4: "free week"
week 5: lost 7 lbs. week 6: "free week"
week 7: lost 6 lbs. week 8: "free week"
week 9: lost 4 lbs. week 10: "free week"
week 11: lost 2 lb.s week 12 "1/2 free, 1/2 soup-lost 1 lb."
I LOST 40 POUNDS!!! 40 POUNDS!!!
WOW! it really does work! I want to lose about 15 lbs.and it has taken me 3 years to want this soup again but with results like this, who can argue?
Thanks again, happy weight loss![/i]

Well I started this diet on july 27th The soup is pretty good I have to admit I am getting a little sick of it but thats o.k. its only 7 days. Does anybody have any suggestions of food that they ate? As far as the fruits and vegies go. Or when I do get to eat meat what kind of meat would you suggest?

A tasty way to enjoy the fruit is to make a smoothie with ice cubes, splenda and whatever berries you have on hand. On "banana" day, use the skim milk, bananas and splenda. This makes a delicous smoothie. As far as the vegetables go, explore the frozen food section and use lots of seasonings on your veggies. There is no way to avoid getting a little tired of the soup, but by weighing every other day, you will probably find the effort well worth a little boredom. Try using beef or chicken broth in place of water for the soup. Use a great deal of seasonings to change up the taste of the soup. I admit to not always using cabbage and sometimes making chicken soup with all the veggies (no cabbage or tomatoes) and taking out the chicken before eating. When doing this, I ate tomatoes on the side for the fat burning effect. Remember, you can make necessary adjustments. You can win by making this your soup and making changes to suit you and your body and lifestyle. You asked about meat, make sure you copy the whole diet, not just the soup. On this plan, you do something different daily for 7-days. You eat meat on days 5 and 6 along with tomatoes. Your meat is beef or chicken. Go to the home page and type in 7-day soup diet and make a copy of the whole plan, otherwise you could become very weak and sick from malnutrition. Take care and the best of luck to you. You will succeed!
