From Australian Better Homes and Gardens Diabetic Living. Easy to halve or double. Sustagen here in Australia is a powdered formula often used for the sick and weak hence high in all the nutrients (used a lot when the DM recovered from surgery) - it comes in vanilla or chocolate, you may wish to look for something similar.

SERVES 2 , 2 shakes (change servings and units)

Ingredients

Directions

  1. 1
Put Sustagen Dutch chocolate powder, milk, banana and ice cubes in a blender and blend until smooth.
  2. 2
Transfer to a jug or divide between 2 large glasses to serve.

Yum, I used a very ripe banana & ovaltine for the chocolate but not quite the full amount. Toddler DD & I both devoured it! Thanks Pat!

Very chocolatey! After blending everything together, I took a taste test and determined it needed more sweetness so doubled the banana as recommended by Annacia. It still could use some more sweetness so I may add some sweetener. Sustagen is not sold in the US...I wonder if it contains sweetener? And if it contains other nutrients, it may have less cocoa by volume. I used Hershey's pure cocoa powder. Thanks for posting the recipe. It is a nice, healthy, very chocolately smoothie!

Mmmmmmmm. I made a single serving and used 1/4 cup of cocoa with a whole banana. After blending and tasting I added some Splenda, I didn't measure but just shook some in from the container that lives on the counter. This is very tasty and quite filling.....in fact, I think I just had dinner! :D
