Avocados - Stock up on Sale and Freeze-Tips OAMC

Recipe #386901 | 2 min | 2 min prep | add private note

Avocados can be expensive, even here in Texas. This is more of a tip than a recipe that I wanted to save for myself and share with y'all. Now I can stock up when they are on sale yet still enjoy them when they are not. Just multiply the recipe for the number of avocados you want to freeze.

SERVES 2 , 1 avocado (change servings and units)

Ingredients

Directions

  1. 1
Halve avocados, remove pit and flesh and place flesh in a zip top plastic bag. Add lemon juice and mash or squish the avocado. You can puree it in a blender or food processor if you like and then add to the bag. ( I have frozen diced and sliced this way as well though the mashed or puree works best).
  2. 2
Seal bag almost all the way. Squeeze out all the air in the bag, pressing and flattening the avocado and bag until all the air is removed.
  3. 3
Label bag noting the number of avocados inside, lay flat and freeze for up to 6 months.
  4. 4
Note: To use: remove from freezer and thaw for 15 minutes at room temperature The avocado will still be fresh and green like you just peeled and mashed it.

Awesome! Thanks!! I love avocados but they are spendy, and when they go on sale I can't eat them fast enough! So this is perfect. Have you ever cubed them and tossed with lemon juice to freeze? I wonder how that works...

Wow I never would have thought you could freeze avocados. I just threw out one I paid $1.99 for here in Texas. Wish I had known about this years ago! Thanks for posting.
