Arepas

Arepas are made out of corn flour and water, they are very easy to make and with the same dough you can make countless recipes, among them, empanadas,pupusas,corn tortillas,etc,In Venezuela, arepas are the meal for excellence, we use to eat it for breakfast, lunch or dinner the only thing that changes is the endless stuffing which goes from scrambled eggs to lobster and beyond

SERVES 1 , 8 arepas (change servings and units)

    take a bowl and add the water (Luke warm or cold) then add the salt and mix very well , little by little add the corn flour to prevent lumps and mix it with your fingers in circular motion, when finished adding the flour let it rest for a few minutes 5 to be exact, make like "snow balls" and squeeze it in your palms until you have a 2 inches thick arepa ,turn on the stove take an iron skillet and add some veggie. oil put the arepa on top, when is toasted in one side turn it around and toast it on the other side (carefully because is hot)once is toasted on both sides put it in the oven at 350 degrees for 20-30 minutes, the toppings are endless you can open them in the middle and add butter any kind of cheese, ham, etc.
