Company History. Recipezaar was founded by Troy Hakala and Gay Gilmore in September of 1999, initially launched as Cookpoint.com in December 1999. Recipezaar is a privately held company located in Seattle, Washington. For more information, learn About the Team.

Recipezaar's mission is to build The World's Smartest Cookbook^sm. The key areas of Recipezaar include:

Intuitive Browsing. All of Recipezaar's recipes have been categorized, so you can browse based on hundreds of Categories: for example, the Course you want to make, the Cuisine of the world it derives from, the Main Ingredient required, the cooking Preparation, and a variety of Special categories, such as Holidays, Kid Pleaser, etc.. Unlike traditional cookbook indices, you can continue to combine and filter on Recipezaar categories as you go, e.g. click Appetizers first, then Mexican, then Chicken, and you will narrow the list of recipes shown at each step.

Powerful searching capabilities. Search for "chicken" and Recipezaar not only finds recipes with the word chicken in the title, but finds all recipes with chicken in the ingredients. Once you have executed a search, you can continue to refine it by adding criteria, e.g. chicken and eggplant dishes. Advanced Search makes it easy to find recipes fast, when you know what you want, e.g. "Italian, Vegetarian Soup with Tomatoes and Garlic you can make in under 30 minutes."

My Cookbook. You can create your own personal cookbook of favorite recipes culled from Recipezaar's database, and save them for easy access in the future. Your cookbook can be searched and browsed in the same manner as the rest of Recipezaar.

My Grocery List. Your own personal grocery list sorts and groups ingredients from any number of recipes into one list for easy shopping. You can print out this shopping list and take it to the store to do your shopping.

Recipe Ratings and Suggestions. Recipezaar recipes are rated by our visitors, so you can be sure you get the best recipes and the best help in the kitchen.
