I followed the directions EXACTLY as written - this bean recipe is awesome! And easy, and cheap, and contains everything I always have in the cupboard, so I will always add these spices to my beans going forward.. thanks much!!!

You are right when you say this gives extra flavor to ordinary, bland, refried beans. These spices go such a long way toward improving the flavor. It is not authentic I'm sure, but I have also added a 1/4 cup of butter or margerine before heating. This gives the beans such a creamy texture and and cooking the butter into the beans seems to keep them from getting to runny. Would highly recommend this recipe to anyone.

I used 1 can of black beans, drained, for one of the cans of the refried beans. I also added some shredded cheese. We thought these were really good and I will definitely repeat this often. THANKS!
