Very Low-Carb Hamburger Bun!

Recipe #229625 | 6 min | 5 min prep | add private note

By: Jainene
May 23, 2007

I found this recipe on a low-carb forum when Googling different low-carb websites--it sounds crazy, but the end result is amazing! To quote the original post: "This makes a wonderful hamburger bun, it tastes like a whole wheat bun. It's very sturdy and holds up well with all the juiciness of a hamburger with all the fixings." Note: you may need to add more ground flaxseed/flaxseed meal--the consistently of the "stuff" pre-microwaved should be thick and sort of pasty, like brownie batter, not liquidy.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. 1
Mix all ingredients together in a microwave safe bowl or container.
  2. 2
Put the bowl/container in the microwave and nuke for 1 minute or until center is set.
  3. 3
It will billow up in the bowl.
  4. 4
Leave it in the bowl for another minute then turn it out on a cooling rack and let it cool.
  5. 5
Once it has cooled take a long bread knife and slice the bun in half and make your hamburger as usual.

This is a great recipe. I make a flat bread/pancake with the same ingredients by pouring the batter in a thin layer into a silicone cake pan instead of a bowl. I add garlic and onion powder or splenda and cinnamon for the pancake.

What a quick simple recipe that fills that gap of low carb sandwiches. Had mine as a BLT - first one in ages, ohh I did enjoy it!

This was wonderful. I was truly amazed. I did use 1/2 flax and 1/2 oat flour. This is my new miracle bread. Also used Smart Balance instead of butter. Thank you sooooo much....

WOW! If i could give this 100 stars, I would. This recipe is absolutely FABULOUS as I'm doing atkins and while I don't necessarily miss the taste of bread - it's more the fact that I am sick of eating sandwich fixin's and burgers with a fork. This bun is the best! Thanks!!
