Uncle Bill's Fried Potatoes and Onions

Recipe #158832 | 30 min | 10 min prep | add private note
William (Uncle Bill) Anatooskin

By: William (Uncle Bill) Anatooskin
Mar 6, 2006

I remember my Grandmother making this marvelous dish over 65 years ago. We were the only vegetarians in our family and therefore Grandma cooked just to please me. A very easy, simple but tasty side dish. Young potatoes are especially good.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. 1
Peel and slice potatoes about 1/8 inch thick or thinner.
  2. 2
    Slice onion thinly.
  3. 3
In a large frying pan on medium-high heat, melt butter.
  4. 4
Add sliced potatoes and onions, cover and fry for 10 minutes. Using a spatual, turn the potatoes and onions over so they do not break apart.
  5. 5
Sprinkle with granulated garlic powder, salt and pepper and continue to fry with cover removed for another 5 minutes or until potatoes begin to turn slightly brown; turning occasionally.
  6. 6
    Serve hot with your meal.

Wonderful potatoes... especially for breakfast smothered in crumbled sausage and cream gravy!

I hadn't had fried potatoes in such a long time and this was a very good recipe. I love the carmalized onion, just enough sweet & spice to make those potatoes delicious. Thank you!
