Turkey Gravy

Recipe #87317 | 10 min | 5 min prep | add private note

By: TexasKelly
Mar 22, 2004

I cooked my first turkey last night, wanting to get rid of the huge frozen turkey taking up space in our freezer. This recipe came out of one of my Better Homes & Gardens cookbook, and came out wonderful. I expected it to be much harder, since I have never made gravy or a turkey before.

SERVES 8 -10 (change servings and units)

Ingredients

Directions

  1. 1
After turkey has been roast, pour juices from turkey into a large measuring cup.
  2. 2
Skim off all fat, reserving a ¼ cup of it.
  3. 3
    Discard rest of fat.
  4. 4
Pour fat into a medium sized saucepan.
  5. 5
    Stir in ¼ cup flour.
  6. 6
In measuring cup, add enough water or chicken broth to equal 2 cups.
  7. 7
Turn stovetop to medium heat and slowly pour in juices/water or chicken broth mixture.
  8. 8
Stir over medium heat until thickened and bubbly.
  9. 9
    Salt& pepper to taste.
  10. 10
    Enjoy!

Great and Easy Recipe. Our Turkey had wonderful drippings after being soaked in a brine. I loved this turkey gravy and even had comments at Thanksgiving that it was very good. I am sure in part due to the drippings but this recipe is the perfect combination of ingredients. I did double the recipe as we wanted more gravy.

This was EASY and came out so well! I cooked the flour for a minute and then followed the recipe, for the water I always simmer the neck with one onion halved, carrots, celery and pepper corns while the turkey roasts so that is what I used here and it was very good! I am a bit intimidated by gravy but the directions here were fool proof. Thank you Texas Kelly!

I make this either chicken or turkey drippings and it always comes out great! I do brown the drippings and flour until the form a ball to get a better flavor. I always get compliments.
