Turkey Cheese Burgers

Try to use both white and dark meat for this, just using white meat will create a very dry turkey burger. Plan ahead the turkey burgers have to marinade overnight before cooking or grilling them. Serving and cooking times are only estimated depending on the size of you burgers.

SERVES 10 (change servings and units)

Ingredients

Directions

  1. 1
In a large skillet, saute the onions with cayenne, oregano and basil for about 4-5 minutes, then add in the garlic and saute for another 2 minutes; transfer to a bowl to a small bowl or plate to cool completely.
  2. 2
In a large bowl mix together the turkey, BBQ sauce, oats, shredded cheese, Parmesan cheese, milk, seasoning salt, pepper, then add in the cooled onion/garlic mixture.
  3. 3
Add in about 1/3 cup dried bread crumbs.
  4. 4
Using clean hands mix completely adding in more dry breadcrumbs if the mixture is too moist, add enough to just shape into patties.
  5. 5
Shape into about 9 or 10 patties.
  6. 6
Cover with plastic wrap and chill overnight.
  7. 7
When ready to cook fry, broil or grill the turkey burgers, cook for about 6 minutes on each side, or until done and golden brown. *NOTE* cooking time will depend on the size of your patties, cook until a thermometer inserted in the center reads 165 and the meat is no longer pink.

What a wonderful flavor this burger had. I changed and used 1 Tbs of minced dried onion flakes in place of the real onion and used garlic and herb breadcrumbs for 1 lb of ground turkey. I let set overnight and made them the next day. They were delicious. I pan fried them in olive oil. Thanks for sharing this delicious recipe, its another keeper in my cookbook

I too just couldn't wait overnight. LoL! Sorry Kittz. I did manage to let them sit for about 4 hours though. Very nice burger and you don't have to feel guilty eating it, with it being turkey meat. I used a mixture and I think next time I might add just a wee bit more BBQ sauce. I also only used 1 lb. meat as there were only 2 of us, so I got 4 fairly large patties of which I could only eat one but my husband had two.

Couldn't wait one day to have these! They were quite tasty! They were great on the grill - love the cayenne pepper with the onions. Next time I will chill overnight...!! Thanks Kit!

DH enjoyed these! I did use both dark and white ground turkey breast for a very nice and moist burger. Also, used honey barbecue sauce and about 1/2 cup of bread crumbs. Will be making these again soon!
