From "Scottish Teatime Recipes" - my family will munch on these wee treats at any old time of day!

SERVES 4 (change servings and units)

Ingredients

    Heat oven to 425°F or Gas Mark 7 and grease a baking sheet.
  2. 2
    Sift the flour and salt into a bowl and rub in the butter.
  3. 3
    Mix in the sugar and cinnamon.
  4. 4
    Add the treacle or molasses and sufficient milk to make soft dough.
  5. 5
    Turn on to a floured surface and knead gently- the dough should be fairly moist and elastic.
  6. 6
    Roll out to about ½-inch thick, and cut into rounds with a 2½-inch pastry cutter.
  7. 7
    Place on the baking sheet, brush with a little milk and bake for 10-15 minutes until golden in coIour.

    Cool on a wire rack.
  9. 9
    Serve split in half and buttered.

    Store at room temperature in an airtight container.

Very yummy, but the dough was so wet, even without all the milk. I ended up making drop scones instead. The taste was great!!!! I used cane syrup because that is what I had on hand. Will make again.

    Another fast recipe that yields great results. These remind me of gingerbread but without the spices and less sugar. I had to bake mine for 7-8 minutes so they wouldn't get too brown on the bottom.

    Sure and I tried some of these "wee treats" today. I love molasses and these hit the spot. I made a double batch and was careful about adding the milk, it didn't require all of it. I converted the measurements from weight to volume. 8 ounces flour=1 1/2 cups..... 2 ounces butter=1/4 cup...... 1 ounce sugar=2 1/2 tablespns.. Thanks for this great recipe Miller... Lee
