I was invited to friends for dinner on Rosh Hashana and was told to bring dessert. I decided to invent this trifle, along with the help of some very good Zaar folk in the Q&A thread. I want to thank Terese, PetitFour, Jules, CCLady, ann teapot, Iron Bloomers, Charishma, evelyn/athens, MarieAlice, HeatherFeather, joni g, Mrs Beeton wannabe, Dancer, Amy - Ellie''s mommie, Bergy, Watermelon and Ann Marie F for all their wonderful input. This dessert was a hit!

Ingredients

Directions

  1. 1
Prepare the various layers of the trifle so they are all ready to assemble together.
  2. 2
Slice the pound cakes down the middle length-wise, then slice each loaf into 10-12 slices, resulting in 20-24 cubes per loaf, a maximum of 48 cubes.
  3. 3
Saute the apples in the butter until soft.
  4. 4
Add the cinnamon and mix well to coat all the apple slices.
  5. 5
In the bowl of an electric mixer, combine the whipping cream, cream cheese, honey and vanilla pudding.
  6. 6
Toss the Skor bits into the food processor and whirl until finely chopped.
  7. 7
Now assemble the trifle in a large clear bowl with straight (ish) sides.
  8. 8
This makes a large quantity so you may have up to three layers.
  9. 9
First lay down a layer of cake cubes Then cover with the sauteed apples.
  10. 10
Then cover with a generous layer of whipped cream.
  11. 11
Then sprinkle with a layer of ground Skor bits.
  12. 12
Repeat the layers until all the ingredients have been used up, ending in a layer of Skor bits.
  13. 13
Note: I actually had more cake than necessary, so I had a layer of cake and cream in the middle before starting over with another layer of cake.

3 words: or.gas.mic!!! I love the honey vanilla stuff, and the apples were yummy! Could have used more apples, though. ANd I prefer homemade pound cake! Folks were begging for the recipe!

It doesn't get any better than this! I cannot rave enough about this, it was so delicious. This is definitely one for 10 stars. My trifle bowl is on the smallish side so I used a bit less than 1 pound cake. However, it does need all 6 apples. The pudding mix is 3.4 oz box (4 servings, 1/2 C each), the apples were MacIntosh and I used regular toffee bits (last bag in the store). This is definitely a dessert for a group or one will end up eating the whole thing alone. Thanks for making me a star at lunch!

A wonderful dessert! I made this for a recent gathering of my church women's circle and everyone yummed their way through large portions. I used Granny Smith apples, and I didn't do any processing of the Heath bits. Had a bit of pound cake and some cream left over, but BF was more than happy to eat that up. He was also happy to receive the small portion leftover after the meeting. The only thing I think I would do differently would be to use a few more apple slices in the future, or maybe use larger apples to begin with. Grat creation Mirj!
