Three Not so Blind Mice

The cutest, delicate mice you ever saw! Everyone remarks about them. I give trays of assorted cookies each year and place them on top. They just make it! It actually is a help when the kids can put on the almonds. I don't remember where I got the recipe, so I gave the best measurements I can recall. It sounds like it could be a Hershey's recipe!? For adults you can strain the cherries, then add rum or almond liquor and soak overnight drain and dry proceed with recipe. Save the rum for drinks.

20 candies (change servings and units)

Ingredients

  • 1 (16 ounce) jar maraschino cherries, drained dried on paper towel

  • 1 (10 ounce) bag miniature chocolate chips (optional for the eyes)

  • 1 (12 ounce) package semisweet chocolate
  • 2 ounces paraffin wax

  • 1 (10 ounce) bag sliced almonds
  • 5 ounces white icing

  • 1 (16 ounce) bag Hershey's chocolate kisses

Directions

  1. 1
Melt chocolate and paraffin double boiler.
  2. 2
Dip whole cherry holding tail, set on waxed paper.
  3. 3
Attach one kiss to opposite end of tail, it`ll be the head.
  4. 4
Make sure the tail lies along the waxed paper.
  5. 5
    Don`t forget it`s to be a mouse.
  6. 6
Then put almonds for ears between chocolate kiss and cherries.
  7. 7
Tube tiny eyes above the nose then apply mini kisses over icing.

These are so cute. I made these years ago, but couldn't quite remember how to do it. Thanks so much for sharing. Oh - it is much easier if you get maraschino cherries with the stems on. I couldn't find any so had to use string licorice so wasn't easy to dip them. Thanks for sharing this recipe. Had to update this - I made for Thanksgiving and the kids were crazy about them. They requested I make them for the Christmas Family Dinner. There's 24 kids so had to make lots.

I just made these this past weekend for my daughter Halloween party at school this week. I put them in an air tight container and then in the freezer (no problems yet). I use rosted pumpkin seeds for the ears instead of almonds so I wouldn't have to worry about nut allergies.

Excellent. These went together so quickly and easily. I did find that I had way too much chocolate so I used the leftover for espresso beans and chocolate covered nuts. Next time I'll reduce the chocolate by half. I also added a touch of oil to the chocolate instead of parafin wax (just a personal preference). I melted my chocolate in the microwave and then set it over a bowl of hot water and it worked up very easily. I also used melted white chocolate chips and made eyes using a tooth pick. I then used another toothpick to dot some of the leftover darker chocolate for pupils.
