They Could Be Sliders (If Eaten With Eyes Closed) - White Castle

Recipe #54259 | 35 min | 15 min prep | add private note

By: LAURIE
Feb 17, 2003

A slightly "mock" rendition of White Castles sliders, but we think only better. Great "kid" sized burgers or even better for "adult" sized snacks! NOTE: since posting this recipe I have found out that Pepperidge Farm no longer makes the small rolls in the pans so therefore use your own disgression on which rolls are available to you but I do suggest that you use a small size like a dinner roll in order to get the full "White Castle" affect!

SERVES 20 (change servings and units)

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 8 ounces Velveeta cheese (cubed or use the shreds)

  • 1/2 (1 1/4 ounce) package onion soup mix
  • 1 small onion, chopped fine

  • 2 (20 count) packages pepperidge farm rolls, in a pan (20 small in a package)
  • 40 slices dill pickles, about

Directions

  1. 1
    Brown ground beef, and drain.
  2. 2
Stir in cheese, soup and onion, til cheese melts.
  3. 3
    Cut buns in half.
  4. 4
    Spread burger mixture on buns.
  5. 5
    Wrap in foil.
  6. 6
    Bake 350 for 15-20 minutes.
  7. 7
Open from foil and top each with pickle slice.
  8. 8
    Serve immediately, with eyes closed.

Very good I'm a white castle fan and I can't believe the cheese and onion mix are the key ingredients. The house began smelling like White Castle. I didn't have aluminum foil so after cooking the meat, I added meat mixture to potato dinner rolls and placed rolls by 2s into an open small freezer ziplock bag and placed bag into microwave to steam/soften the roll, about 30 seconds for each couple. I added ketchup to the burgers, no pickles, and good to go!

These are good. I love the fact that they are fast and you don't have to pat out little tiny patties. You get a faster dinner with the same taste. I used the Buttery Bread Machine Rolls Buttery Bread Machine Rolls for the rolls and you have heaven in your mouth.

Rita L (4/2/2003) My DS & DH are pros at White castle burgers and they said 5 stars all the way down to their bellies. I don`t know if the after effects are the same??! :0! They did enjoy them. I couldn`t find the pepperidge farm rolls so I use potato dinner rolls. They also topped thier sliders with ketchup! Just made these again by request of DH,DS & DS. They just loved them! And very easy to. April 29,2003 It`s May 01,2005 and made these again with a series of pictures posted here. This time I topped the burgers with the pickles and ketchup before wrapping with foil and placing in the oven, I started to wrap each one seperate then decided to wrap a couple at a time in one foil.

This is an amazing recipe. I grew up in St. Louis and loved White Castle. I now live in Kansas and they are nowhere to be found. My whole family was amazed at how much these tasted like the real thing. I had to go out and get more ingredients to make them again the next night. Thanks for the great recipe!
