Recipe #239067 | 40 min | 20 min prep | add private note

These are the best steak sandwiches I adopted when I was homesick for Montreal...perhaps better than my memory!! Enjoy.

SERVES 2 -4 (change servings and units)

Ingredients

Directions

  1. 1
Season steak with spice and set aside.
  2. 2
Chop garlic and add 1/4 cup of butter and chopped parsley.Microwave for 1 minute and let rest.
  3. 3
Add green pepper, onion and mushrooms to frying pan - dot with butter and add some salt and pepper. Cook over med/low heat until soft.
  4. 4
Halve the kaiser rolls and butter with the garlic mixture on both sides. Add slice of mozzarella/swiss (sometimes I combine) to bottom half of rolls.
  5. 5
Sprinkle a second frying pan (or grill) with olive oil and when ready, sear the seasoned steaks on both sides. Turn off heat and cover with tin foil tent for at least 5 minutes.
  6. 6
    Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  7. 7
Assemble sandwiches by adding steak on top of cheese, add mushroom/green pepper/onion mixture and close sandwich with top of roll.
  8. 8
Wrap in tin foil and heat in oven for 10 minutes.
  9. 9
Remove and let then cool a bit -- then enjoy!

I have well over a hundred cookbooks. I love reading and trying new recipes. This recipe is a treasure! The kind you read about in food critic reviews. A true gourmet sandwich that is easy with simple ingredients!

This is fantastic! I am always looking for creative things to do with minute steaks. This is the best use of them I have tried so far. This is a delicious, restaurant style sandwich! Thanks for posting!

I don't normally like cubed steak, but this was so good! I used cubed pork steak and canned sliced mushrooms because I didn't have fresh. I look forward to making this again soon.
