The Best Turkey Burger Ever According to My Hubby

Recipe #257868 | 34 min | 20 min prep | add private note

This is a southwestern stuffed burger that will knock your socks off. My hubby HATES ground turkey. When he took a bite of it, he yelled #*@$ that's good. Then, he went to the grocery store and got more ground turkey the next day.

SERVES 4 -6 (change servings and units)

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 lbs ground turkey (could use ground beef)

  • 1 (1 1/4 ounce) package taco seasoning
  • 1/2 cup four-cheese Mexican blend cheese
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise (divided)
  • 1/4 cup chunky salsa (divided, I have also used black bean salsa with excellent results.)
  • 4-6 leaves lettuce
  • 4-6 slices tomatoes

Directions

  1. 1
Blend 3 tbsp mayo, 1 pkg taco seasoning, and meat. Divide into 4 for big burgers and 6 for smaller ones. Divide each burger in half then press each out to make 8 or 12 thin patties.
  2. 2
Mix shredded cheese and 2 tbsp salsa in a small bowl. Spoon mixture over half of the patties. Cover each with another patty and press the sides into a nice seal.
  3. 3
Grill (I use George Foreman and don't close the lid) about 7 minutes on each side.
  4. 4
While grilling, mix remaining mayo with remaining salsa. Spread on your buns. Add lettuce, tomato, and whatever extras you like. We usually don't add anything. Assemble your burger like usual.

This recipe was outstanding. It was easy to prepare and everybody loved it. I used a black bean and corn salsa...loved it.

this was absolutely delicious. i can't say mine held together too well, especially because i pan fried it instead, but i'm rating this on flavor. i made a couple of adjustments... i added about 1/2 a cup of crushed corn chips... i didn't have shredded cheese on hand, so instead, i took regular american cheese, and folder it into fours... then put a dollop of salsa on top... the cheese just oozed out... GREAT RECIPE!!

For taste/flavor I would give it five stars--love the flavor. For ease of handling, I'd give it a three. My meat mix was so mushy that I could not make burgers (used a taco spice mix recipe from Zaar, but same "amount"). Needed to add about 1/2 cup breadcrumbs to make the meat bind at least a little. It was still difficult to manage. The flavor combination was sensational. Next time I might use a little less "stuffing" as the burgers oozed a bunch and were messy to eat. My DH also suggested I mold the burgers into a rectangular shape to serve on hoagie rolls (hollowed a bit) which might make them easier to handle. We love turkey, and these burgers are great--thanks for a terrific recipe.
