The Best Browned Beef Stew -- --Ever

Recipe #36984 | 2¾ hours | 20 min prep | add private note

By: Christina Chavez

I originally found this recipe at Recipe Goldmine but have added and subtracted after trial and error. The original recipe called for a 10 oz pkg of frozen peas to be added during the last 15 minutes of cooking. I usually add a little rosemary and cayenne. Can add the spices you wish. This is very good!

Very tasty. The only problem was that the potatoes and carrots were still hard and crunchy after 45 minutes ! Had to almost double that time — had us eating at fashionable 7:30 PM ! Thanks for posting.

All around a successful beef stew. Turned out very nicely. I used a bit less beef than it called for, and it was fine.

This reminded me a lot of a stew my mom makes! Our family loved the flavour! I added 1/2 tsp marjoram, 1/8 tsp tarragon and threw in a bay leaf. I also added some turnip chunks and parsnip! YUMMY! Thanks for posting this tasty and easy stew recipe!

This was delicious especially the gravy. I had a banana pepper and a vining okra that I added in the last hour of cooking. I also added a couple of tablespoons of barley and it was excellent. I'll be making this again. I didn't add the cayenne or the rosemary but it was still good. Thanks for posting, Christina!
