WOW!! This is SO incredibly tasty!! I got this off the Weight Watchers website. This is my version of the recipe. This one is a definite keeper for us. Chalk full of flavor we thought!!! And VERY versatile!!

SERVES 5 (change servings and units)

Ingredients

Directions

  1. 1
    Fry meat until just done.
  2. 2
    Drain off excess oil.
  3. 3
    Rinse with hot water.
  4. 4
(sounds GROSS, I know, but if you're watching fat, this is an excellent way to get it out of there and you don't notice a difference in flavor!) Return meat to pan and add remaining ingredients.
  5. 5
Cover and simmer on low for 1 hour.
  6. 6
(I actually found that simmering for about 50 minutes worked well. It thickened it up just great).
  7. 7
Estimated POINTS for Weight Watchers is 2 points for a 1 cup serving. ***Edited after first review*** You know, this is just what the recipe said. I have NO CLUE what points are. I did WW back before the fiber cap. Maybe that's where these low points come from. As the reviewer states -- best to check it yourself! :).
  8. 8
(always double check your own points!) I took warmed flour tortillas and wrapped this up in them with a plop of sour cream and a bit of grated cheese.
  9. 9
My daughter took corn chips and used it as a dip.
  10. 10
    It's sooo good!
  11. 11
You can also add Salsa for some extra flavor it you'd like.
  12. 12
Many different things you could do with this recipe!
  13. 13
I hope you enjoy it as much as we did!

This is now a family favorite. DH & I followed the recipe exactly the first time and enjoyed the flavor, but we do prefer more heat so we have exchanged the stewed tomatoes for rotel. We use this for burrito filling, taco salad, super nacho's, & quesadillas. Very good!

I really enjoyed this recipe but did add 1 tbsp of Mama Africa;s Piri Piri. It is impossible for a recipe to have the right heat for everyone - I like Hot. Also I took the advice of one of the reviewers and added some sweet green pepper -I wasn't sure if Ishould drain the black beans or not but after adding the tomatoes I decided that there was enough liquid so I drained them before adding to the meat. Used a Spinach tortilla as the wrap and served a simple lettuce, tomato & onion salad on the side Mmmm Great Saturday night dinner.

We had this tonight and it was really good. I must say though, that there is a lot of controversy about this recipe on the WW site. I calculated this recipe to have 5 points per serving (without beans - it's 6 points with beans) someone else calculated this to be 9 points per serving. I guess just be careful and count the points for yourself. I made this without the beans due to personal preference. It was a nice change from ordinary tacos. My family loved the flavor. Thanks for the recipe - it was so easy and yummy!

I usually shy away from the recipes that rely on pre-packaged seasoning mixes but this looked too good to resist. I used Taco Seasoning Mix #2642 for this and would encourage others to consider it. Since Marlene was open to people playing with this, I did. First, while the Cattleman's Association has reported that the rinse technique washes away 1/4 of the fat and calories, I've always worried it would wash out too much flavor. Instead, I put the ground turkey in a colander to drain for a minute then spread the meat out on a thick ply paper towel. After 30 minutes of simmering, I tried it and thought it was good enough to eat right then. Continued simmering but added a small can of tomato sauce so it would spoon well over chili. Note that if you are using this as a dip or taco filling, this makes it too loose. The end result was scrumtious. Not a chili - flavoring very different. But a nice stewy kind of dish. Could also see adding onions or green peppers in with the meat in the future. Since I do Core, not Flex I counted a 1/2 point per serving for the ranch dressing mix. As for the Flex points, if you use the data here it's 5.5 points per serving. If you factor in the rinsing, that might save you 1/2 point, maybe a whole if you stretch it. Thanks Marlene!
