Mimi's Sweet Petals

Recipe #213753 | 2¾ hours | 35 min prep | add private note

As the title sounds, this yeast coffee cake is arranged on the pan, and is supposed to look like petals of a flower. The coating on the outside of the petals is a little crinkly because of the sugar. My granddaughter loves these. What better reason would anyone have for making something over and over again?

Directions

  1. 1
    DOUGH:.
  2. 2
Combine 2 cups of the flour, sugar, salt, and yeast in an electric mixing bowl and mix well.
  3. 3
In a saucepan, heat to 118 degrees the milk, water, and butter.
  4. 4
Add to the flour mixture and beat at low speed till moistened; then at medium speed for about 3 minutes.
  5. 5
By hand, stir in the remaining flour, 1/2 cup at a time.
  6. 6
Knead till smooth and elastic--about 5 minutes.
  7. 7
Place in a greased bowl and cover with wrap.
  8. 8
Rise about 45-60 minutes till doubled.
  9. 9
    Grease a round 12" pan.
  10. 10
    FILLING:.
  11. 11
In a small bowl mix the sugar, brown sugar, and cinnamon together.
  12. 12
In another dish put the melted butter.
  13. 13
    ARRANGEMENT ON PAN:.
  14. 14
Punch dough down. Pinch off about 1 1/2" to 2" piece of dough and form into a strip.
  15. 15
Dip each piece in the butter and then in the sugar mixture.
  16. 16
Place the first piece in the center of pan, curling it a little bit like the center of a flower.
  17. 17
Repeat with remaining strips all around the center piece.
  18. 18
    Rise till double.
  19. 19
Bake in 350 degree oven for about 20-25 minutes; cool to lukewarm.
  20. 20
Being careful not to break the flower, transfer to large platter.
  21. 21
    Drizzle frosting over all.
  22. 22
When you serve it, you just pick the petals off and eat them.
