I never liked coleslaw until I tried my husband's great aunt's. Now I can't get enough of it! Great with BBQ pork sandwiches. You can also use a bag of slaw mix instead of shredding the cabbage and carrots yourself.

SERVES 6 -8 (change servings and units)

Ingredients

Directions

  1. 1
Shred cabbage and carrots into a bowl.
  2. 2
Mix mayonnaise, vinegar and sugar in a separate bowl; blending well.
  3. 3
Pour over shredded vegetables and stir to coat.
  4. 4
    Chill.
  5. 5
Amounts of dressing ingredients can be adjusted to suit taste but always use the same amount of vinegar as sugar.

This was a delicious, easy recipe. I added about 1/4 teaspoon of garlic powder and about 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper to the dressing. I would also suggest that you make it ahead of time and let it sit as long as possible before serving so that the flavors meld more.

You can't buy deli coleslaw again after preparing and eating this! It is too easy and too good, and of course open to interpretation and experimentation. My kids ate it without complaining; one had seconds. The entire bag of premade slaw was gone, just w/2 adults and 4 small kids!

this is in my opinion the best coleslaw by far! my mom taught me this recipe with the addition of 1/2 an onion finely diced. it gives it a nice "zing". i've used red cabbage before too-also good. we always top it off with salt and pepper. this is Great with fish and chips!!! 5 stars for easiness, expense, and most importantly taste!

let me say my first mistake was, that i only made half. i wished i had made the whole recipe.it was just the right taste i was hoping for.now,i won't have to go to KFC for cole slaw.thank you for posting. — Jul 21, 2005, 1 member found this helpful.UPDATE:i've made this several times since i posted my first review of this back in July 2005 and just gets better each time i make it.to make it quicker i've started to use a bagged cole slaw mix,and i also cut back the mayo to 3/4's of a cup.but otherwise i've kept to the original recipe.thanks again for posting.
