Recipe #146427 | 45 min | 10 min prep | add private note

Hey you Paula Deen fans, she has a new magazine, "Cooking with Paula Deen"--this recipe is from the premier issue. It was so yummy looking, I couldn't wait to try it. I added another 15 minutes to the cooking time suggested (30-35 minutes) and It was just right, but oven temperatures vary, so check on it during the last few minutes of cooking time. I'm also going to add a few dashes of cayenne pepper next time for something hot and sweet!

12 -15 appetizer servings (change servings and units)

Ingredients

Directions

  1. 1
    Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. 2
Cut chicken breasts into 1-inch cubes.
  3. 3
Cut each bacon slice into thirds. Wrap each chicken cube with bacon and secure with a wooden pick inserted on the diagonal starting where bacon seam overlaps.
  4. 4
Stir together brown sugar and chili powder. Dredge wrapped chicken in mixture.
  5. 5
Coat a rack and broiler pan with non-stick cooking spray. Place chicken on rack in broiler pan.
  6. 6
Bake at 350°F for 30 to 35 minutes, or until bacon is crisp.

Everyone that has tried these has asked that I make them every time I am asked to bring something to a party. I add cumin, mustard powder, garlic powder, garlic salt and a little curry powder to add some extra flavor and they are always a BIG hit. My only problem with these is that I don't get more than a few because they disappear so quickly.

They sure didn't taste funny to us! They were awesome says everyone at the Halloween party I just went to! Lovely flavor with just a little kick from the chili powder. Great recipe and one I will use many times in the future while entertaining! Thank you for sharing your recipe with us Sharlene! Linda

This tasted just like BBQ chicken. I followed the recipe exactly except I added 1/4 tsp cayenne to the brown sugar/chili powder mix for a little kick and I also had to cook it for an extra 10 minutes. The chicken was tender and the bacon was cooked perfectly - not soggy at all. One thing I did do differently is midway through cooking, I turned the chicken over as I noticed the bottom wasn't as crisp as the top. Other than that, very easy and quick to make. Thanks for sharing Sharlene!

This was a big hit, I made it for a birthday party and was one of the first things gone. I cut the chicken up a day before and marinated it in a little lemon juice, seasoning salt, paprika, chili powder, garlic powder and cumin. The next day I wrapped in the bacon and dredged in the brown sugar mix, I also added a little cayenne pepper to that mixure but next time I will add a little more for a bigger kick (super bowl party). I cooked them for about 40 -45 min. as some of the chicken pieces were a little larger than 1-inch and I wanted to make sure it cooked. The chicken was moist and flavorful and the brownsugar mixture gave it a special little zing. Thank you for the great recipe.
