Super Duper Deep Conditioning Hair Treatment for Damaged Hair

Recipe #129648 | 10 min | 5 min prep | add private note

.

2 hair treatment (change servings and units)

Ingredients

  • 1 cup mayonnaise (room temperature if possible, like from a jar of brand new mayo just off the grocery store shelf)
  • 1/2 cup olive oil
  • 3 egg yolks

Directions

  1. 1
Blend all ingredients together in a bowl.
  2. 2
    * If possible use room temperature mayo - if not, let mixture warm up to room temperature*. **If you are in a rush and just can't wait - microwave the mayo for 15 seconds - but be careful - if you nuke it too long it begins to separate**.
  3. 3
Apply thoroughly through your hair adding extra at the ends.
  4. 4
Pile on top of your head and cover with a plastic shower cap and then cover with a towel to keep in the heat from your head.
  5. 5
Leave on for at least 10-20 minutes and then rinse out.
  6. 6
Should make 1 to 2 hair treatments depending on the length of your hair.
  7. 7
If you don't want to save the left over for another treatment use whatever is left over as a moisturizing face mask. Also can be used on dry elbow and knees (for best results, this should be used immediately after making and not saved. It will still work, but won't be as effective as when it's fresh).
  8. 8
Do NOT shampoo afterwards, just rinse it really well. Do this on a day when you are not going to go out. Any oil that clings to your hair after you rinse it out, will continue to condition your hair until the next time you shampoo it out.
  9. 9
*** for best hair conditioning purposes, use immediately after making without refrigerating first. The reason is, the fats and oil will penetrate your hair follicles better if it is not cold. Tip to remember for all hair care: Warm/Hot opens the hair follicles so that conditioner can penetrate deeper. And cold water closes the hair follicles. So after you shower your hair, after you rinse every thing out, rinse again with a blast of very cold water. The coldest you can possibly stand. This cold water blast will also make your hair super shiny!***.

The only thing missing with this recipe was whether to apply to wet or dry hair. I opted to apply it to dry hair and I followed another user's suggestion of cutting the recipe down so I only used 1 egg (etc.). On dry hair I used the whole batch-- and my hair is pretty short. I put this on in the evening and after rinsing out went to bed when my hair was still slightly damp. In the morning I shampood and my hair was super soft. Even 3 days later it feels great!

here is a way i do use this.... brush hair first, then use a big toothed comb (kind you use with conditioner in shower) & spread the mixture through my hair all the way to the end... next i either bard or twist my hair & clip it with a barrette on top of my head then put a shower cap on topthen take a hot wash cloth wrung out & put it on top then follow with a dry towel. when done i jut take everything off & step into the shower & let the water rinse of very warm water & comb through just like i was conditionoing.. then follow with a cold rinse... hope this helps some others out there as it helps be able to really rinse the hair out with the very warm water to be able to comb through.. also i like to take a relaxing soak bath while waiting to treatmet & ican always use the rinse the tub out at the same time with the shower afterwards...

I swear by this treatment ... as far as the combing problems ... I have curly hair so I do not comb my hair anyway ... but it is always light and soft when I do this ... I love it ... I did not know the fact about the cold water sealing the hair ... good one! thanks ... E
