    Place potatoes and 1 teaspoon of salt in a saucepan and cover with cold water.

    Bring to a boil and cook over medium heat until fork tender, 15 to 20 minutes.

    Drain.

    Return the potatoes to the saucepan and add the butter, cream, and cheese.
  5. 5
    Mash the potatoes, stirring to incorporate the seasonings.

    Season with salt and freshly ground white pepper. Serve warm.

Best mashed potatoes on the planet! If you can find smoked gouda from Denmark, that was we used and it was the best. We've tried american smoked gouda and it has nothing on the europeans.

    These were very good! I loved the smoky flavor! They were nice and thick and creamy just like I like them! Even my mashed potato hating husband said these were the best he had ever eaten! Emeril knows his stuff!

    This is really yummy comfort food at its best. I had this with pumpkin, peas and gravy and have decided I could almost live on this! ( I wouldn't really, I'm too much of a carnivore !!) Great recipie Tigerlilly, thanks
