A basic technique to saute swiss chard. Very flavorful.

SERVES 4 , 4 servings (change servings and units)

Ingredients

Directions

  1. 1
Wash chard by gently submersing in cool water several times.
  2. 2
Remove the stems from leaves and chop stems into 1 inch pieces. Set aside. Stack the washed leaves and roll them in to a long scroll. Using a sharp knife, cut the scroll in quarters.
  3. 3
Heat a skillet or heavy dutch oven over medium-high heat, add the olive oil and chopped stems and saute for 5 minutes.
  4. 4
Add the garlic and saute for an additional 15-20 seconds.
  5. 5
Add the wet chard leaves, one handful at a time, stirring after each addition.
  6. 6
After all the leaves have been added, immediately cover the pan with a tight fitting lid and continue cooking over high heat for about 2 or 3 minutes. Uncover and cook just until most of the liquid has evaporated (another 1 minute or so).
  7. 7
Squeeze a couple of wedges of fresh lemon over prepared chard, season to taste with salt and pepper and serve immediately.

Hi FolkDiva: looking for a simple recipe for chard. We really don't like it very much--but know it is good for us. I like it better than DH. This was pretty good. I also sauteed a small potato with this to help with the overall flavor . Thanks for a simple recipe. I didn;t want one that needed to be cooked for a long time. This was done in about 5 min. Very nice. Will use again. Judy in WA

I love the classic flavors of this simple and healthful dish! Made as directed. Bonus: all but the chard are pantry items, so this is a grab chard and go at the market and voila, super fast dark leafy green side. Thanks, FolkDiva! Made for ZWT5, Kitchen Witches.

This was simple and tasty. I did cook mine for 8 minutes or so, as I like my greens not so crispy. Thanks for posting. Made for the Groovy GastroGnomes for ZWT5.
