Sicilian Popcorn Spice

Recipe #219556 | 5 min | 5 min prep | add private note

In my quest to make my favorite snack more flavorful, I found a variation of this recipe on the Jolly Time web site. Your popcorn will need a bit of moisture to get the blend to adhere. It can come from the oil (if any) used to pop or from adding butter, margarine or a low calorie butter substitute.

SERVES 3 (change servings and units)

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons italian seasoning
  • 3 tablespoons asiago cheese, finely grated (Romano or Parmesan would work as well)
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

Directions

  1. 1
Place the Italian herb blend and garlic powder in a spice grinder, coffee grinder or mini chopper. Pulse until the herb leaves are broken up.
  2. 2
Grate the cheese and blend with the ground spices.
  3. 3
Sprinkle on hot popcorn to taste.
  4. 4
If you are making a big batch, doubling or tripling the recipe, spread out on a plate and allow it to air dry for 2 to 3 hours. Store in an air tight jar in the fridge.

This was great. Popcorn is one of my favorite things. I used parmesan cheese and just broke italian seasonings with a mortar and pedistal. This would be a good all around seasoning blend for other things, like maybe sprinkling on pasta or grilled meat or pizza.
