Seared Ahi Tuna Glazed With Wasabi Butter

Recipe #181057 | 13 min | 5 min prep | add private note

I've always loved wasabi with tuna, but usually the wasabi overpowers such a delicate fish. When this recipe came to me through a friend, who doesn't recall its origins, I finally found the perfect marriage of flavors. I can't make this often enough!

SERVES 4 (change servings and units)

Ingredients

Directions

  1. 1
Drizzle sesame oil on both sides of each tuna steaks. Season with salt and pepper.
  2. 2
Combine remaining ingredients in a small sauce pan. Heat over low heat until butter is melted, stirring constantly to mix and prevent scorching.
  3. 3
While sauce is heating, heat a heavy frying pan on another burner with high heat. Place tuna in pan and sear until crispy and brown. Turn and sear on the other side.
  4. 4
Note: Tuna steak fans who like their tuna on the rare side (like me) will usually find 2 minutes searing time is ample. Folks who like their tuna steaks more well-done (like my DH) may want to sear their tuna for 4-5 minutes per side.

As others have mentioned, I found it a bit salty, but quite tasty.

Very tasty! Being from the Salmon capitol of the world, I've never cooked tuna before so wasn't sure what to expect. This is a very easy recipe that was a big hit with my wife. My only complaint is that it was a touch salty for my taste. I might double the sauce next time, cutting the soy sauce with water, so I've got extra to put on rice. Thanks for the recipe!

This was really simple and fast to put together. My boyfriend and I absolutely love the wasabi sauce! We had balls of sticky rice wrapped in seaweed as an appetizer, and couldn't help but dip the rolls into the wasabi sauce before we cooked it with the tuna :]

Fantastic! Wasabi and butter were made to go together with seared ahi! You may only want to use HALF of the wasabi...I made twice the sauce so we could drizzle over each tuna steak over a bed of brown rice and still used the same amount of wasabi while doubling the rest and it still got us to tear and clear our sinuses...we laughed it off, but first off, no need to double the sauce even if you have 6 ahi steaks like I did (that made too much sauce) and secondly, I would definitely use HALF the wasabi. But a super-flavorful and excellent way to prepare ahi...thank you!!!
