Sausage Meatloaf OAMC

Recipe #173790 | 1¾ hours | 20 min prep | add private note

By: Hwin
Jun 19, 2006

I grew up on this meatloaf, and I love it. It's always a hit with company. My supposedly "vegetarian" friend eats it up every time I make it. Serve with mashed potatoes.

SERVES 6 (change servings and units)

Ingredients

SAUCE

Directions

  1. 1
Combine ground beef, sausage, celery, onion, saltines, and eggs together and form into 2 loaves.
  2. 2
Bake covered at 350 degress Fahrenheit in stoneware for 45 to 75 minutes(depending on the shape of your loaves and desired doneness). Drain grease.
  3. 3
For the sauce, combine tomato sauce, brown sugar, mustard, and Worcestershire sauce.
  4. 4
    Pour sauce over loaves.
  5. 5
Cover meatloaf and cook 15 minutes.
  6. 6
Remove cover and cook 10 to 15 minutes.
  7. 7
To freeze, just freeze the meat mixture in meal size portions. Thaw it in the refrigerator for a day before cooking. You could make and freeze the sauce too, but I usually mix it up when I cook the meat.

Lovr the addition of ground sausage. It really gave this an extra good taste. The sauce was great too, I did add a tad brown sugar since I wanted to finish the bag. It was devoured in one meal by us. Made for PRMR tag.

A really simple and very tasty meatloaf. I'm not sure that Saltines exist here in Oz,so I used Saladas, and it worked out fine. We really enjoyed the addition of the sausage meat,as it gave the whole thing a different dimension.I cut the sauce measurements in half, but still has loads of it,so may well reduce that further next time. A good family meal, that we all enjoyed (even the two under five's!!)...thanks for posting..it's a keeper!
