Sailing Starters

Recipe #294124 | 10 min | 10 min prep | add private note

By: Iceland
Mar 25, 2008

I came up with this as the ham i wanted to use was so short that i could not wrap it around the slices of melon. I came out much better and it is great for picky eaters like me as i do not like to blend my foods. That way allows me to have a piece of melon, eat the ham in one bite and finish of with some more melon. A great starter, serve with dry, sparkling white wine.

SERVES 8 , 12 -16 slices (change servings and units)

Ingredients

Directions

  1. 1
    Cut the melon in half.
  2. 2
Clean the seeds out of it with a tablespoon.
  3. 3
Cut the melon in slices, about 2 inches thick.
  4. 4
    Cut the melon peel away.
  5. 5
    Arrange the slices.
  6. 6
Roll up the ham and fix with tooth pick.

I wish I could say that I liked these more, because prosciutto and melon are two of my favorite foods; but the texture of the meat and fruit together just didn't do it for me (or the others at my dinner party). I think if the prosciutto was cooked and crispy and served with super-chilled melon, I would have liked it a lot more. I will try that sometime. Thanks for posting a classic recipe. Made for ZWT5 Family Picks.

We really enjoyed this recipe - very quick and easy to make. I made some as the recipe stated, and also made some with baby Swiss cheese included. Both were delish. Thanks Iceland. Made for Fall 2008 PAC.

Yum!!!! I love proscuitto with cantaloupe so when I saw this I just had to try it. Fortunately I was home alone so I got to enjoy the whole plate all myself! The honeydew melon I got was perfectly sweet and was fantastic with the salty proscuitto. Thanks for posting! Made for the Saucy Senoritas ZWT5.
