I'd just been reading a book published in the late 1800s, The American Frugal Housewife (cuz I love that sort of thing), and the authoress had mentioned sage tea as a good way to deal with night sweats. Now I, being a woman in her 40s, have just started suffering through those... along with the extra loads of laundering they produce. (Not to mention the liver-cleansing benefits which I, a lover of a good martini, am always on the lookout for!) So, hey, I decided, why not Google a recipe for sage tea? I was thrilled to find one already posted on 'Zaar and with all these helpful reviews, too! Ten minutes later, I was enjoying this yummy tea dosed with a bit of lemon and a jigger of some amazing local honey. Love, love, love this. Thank you so much for sharing the recipe!!!!!

Always loved sage. Used carefully and properly over time, it has many wonderful benefits, unimaginable to most non-Native people in the Far West. Over-used, or used improperly (if boiled for example), it is poisonous and causes toxic build-up in the liver that can lead to serious damage and painful, frightening symptoms such as muscular spasms that if ignored can lead to death. Properly used, sage heals the problems that it causes if used without proper understanding of this herb. Anyway, this recipe is a good one, and it is the way I prepare my Sage tea, except that I steep it for 3-5 minutes and DO NOT recommend that you steep it for longer, as after five minutes the toxic chemicals in ANY HERB always beging to steep out. That is why black or green tea, coffee (and anything else really) all have nasty effects when over-steeped.

The flavor in this was a little too boldly sage-y for me, although it did make me feel quite healthy. The lemon surprised me and really balanced well with the sage. I think this would be best with a blend of sage and another herb- it was a little overwhelming, although certainly drinkable.
