One of the side dishes I remember from my childhood growing up in Holland.

SERVES 4 -6 (change servings and units)

Ingredients

Directions

  1. 1
    Cut and shred cabbage.
  2. 2
    Cook in a small amount of boiling water with salt, cloves and pepper for about 45 minutes.
  3. 3
    Don't let it boil dry, but don't add too much water.
  4. 4
    During the last 10 minutes of cooking time add the vinegar.
  5. 5
    Just before serving add the butter and seasoning.

This was good... a little sweeter than I care for, and nothing I would make again, but if you are looking for a true Rode Kool this is the one.

    We really enjoyed this recipe! So simple and really a great dish. I followed the recipe and did not deviate. I found the amount of sugar perfect and used apple cider vinegar. Thanks Nan!
