This is a childhood favorite... it takes time but its reasonably simple to make. In addition to other ingredients you will need a styrofoam plate, a quart sized jar and wooden stick (shishkabob sticks work well but be sure to cut the point off) ice cream sticks work well too.

SERVES 1 , 1 candy (change servings and units)

Ingredients

  • 1 cup water
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 3 drops food coloring (or more if you like)

Directions

    Steralize jar by boiling in water for a few minutes.
  2. 2
    Moisten one end of wooden stick then roll in sugar(this helps the crystals to form on it).
  3. 3
    Heat 1 cup water to boiling.
  4. 4
    Dissolve 2 cups sugar in water.
  5. 5
    Add food coloring.
  6. 6
    Pour mixture into jar and cover with styrofoam plate.
  7. 7
    Poke wooden stick(sugar coated end down) into mixture.
  8. 8
    Do not disturb for 2-3 days or until crystals form.
