Raw Food: Brownies or Chocolate Bars

I got a Fabe's Organic Chocolate Raw Life Bar, and it was delicious. I tried to recreate it with this recipe, based on the ingredient list.

5 small bars (change servings and units)

Ingredients

Directions

  1. 1
Chop nuts in a food processor until finely chopped.
  2. 2
    Add dates and process again.
  3. 3
Add the rest of the ingredients in order and process until they are mixed. The mixture should be dark brown and crumbly, but it should hold together when pressed. If it doesn't hold together well enough for you, add 1-2 more dates at the end.
  4. 4
Press into a small pan or a bowl, or roll into balls.
  5. 5
Refrigerate to harden, then cut into squares, if desired.
  6. 6
    Keep refrigerated.

I have made these many times for my toddler. I have seen different versions of this recipe. The simplest one is just equal parts dates and walnuts plus cacao powder. I personally did not like the carob in this one, but my son thinks these are a great treat!

Excellent, I was surprised it tasted that good. Most raw foods I make are just okay to pretty good...but this is excellent! I made two batches, spread out in a pan, sprinkled chopped walnuts on top to look more like brownies. They still taste more like chewy fudge, than a brownie but that are great! I would make again in the future when wanting something chocolate. And would recommend this recipe for anyone looking for a raw food dessert or not wanting refined sugar, dairy or flour in their brownies.

Really good...I was inspired by mliss29's photo and rolled out balls that I dipped in different things...some in cocoa, some in sesame and golden flax seeds, some in crushed coconut...made up a terrific "little box of chocolates" for a fabulously special treat...love, love, LOVE!!!!- Thanks MissLinguist!!!

I really liked this, although I liberally subbed ingredients because I forgot to buy dates! I used cranberries and raisins instead (which defeats the "raw" bit, but meh). Anyway, tasted almost exactly like a Fruit & Nut bar. Awesome, I'll definitely make these again! Thanks!
