Pow-wow Potluck

Recipe #92599 | 45 min | 30 min prep | add private note

I have no idea why it is called this, but my Mom made this all through my childhood. I remember it as one of my favorite meals growing up. It is very simple to make!

SERVES 6 (change servings and units)

Ingredients

For toppings

  • Fritos corn chips (or any kind of corn chips, I prefer chili cheese Fritos, but any corn chips will work)
  • shredded cheese (I use a mexican blend)
  • diced tomato
  • chopped onion
  • sour cream
  • shredded lettuce
  • jalapenos (etc.)

Directions

  1. 1
Brown, crumble, and drain hamburger meat in a large skillet.
  2. 2
In the same skillet, combine the cooked meat, beans, and sloppy joe sauce.
  3. 3
Simmer until heated through, approximately 5-10 minutes.
  4. 4
To serve, put a layer of corn chips (I use chili cheese Fritos) on the bottom of a plate.
  5. 5
Top with the meat mixture, then top with the toppings of your choice.
  6. 6
I normally put out shredded mexi blend cheese, diced tomatoes, chopped onions, sour cream, shredded lettuce, and sliced jalapenos, but use your imagination!
  7. 7
Prep time includes chopping veggies and browning the hamburger meat.

Took this one to our church's small group and had people practically licking the pot. Very good and quick for the last minute meals!

I used ground turkey and couldn't find Mexican Chili beans so I used regular chili beans. It turned out awesome and everyone enjoyed it. My two kids (3 and 1) and my hubby. It gave us heartburn but was well worth it!

Loved it! I used pinto beans.Basically this recipe is stacked like an Indian Taco. The Indian Taco is Fry Bread, and this recipe is Frito Corn Chips. And they serve it at Pow Wows all over. Perhaps this is where the name came from.Sometimes I use tomato sauce with a little brown sugar and some tabasco mixed in when I don't have the sloppy joe sauce. Thanks for posting.

My family really enjoyed this tasty meal ~ And I liked that it was very quick and easy-to-make! I fixed a batch of Sloppy Joes #102866 using only 4 ounces of tomato sauce then added a can of "zesty" chili beans to it. We each topped Doritos Black Pepper Jack Chips with the meat mixture then added grated cheese, shredded lettuce, chopped tomatoes, sliced olives, and sour cream ~ Thanks for a yummy supper!
