My mother used to make these on Halloween for the trick-or-treaters (back when people didn't automatically throw out anything not factory-sealed) and the word would spread and kids would come to our house from all over to get them. She made some one year for a Christmas charity bazaar and they were such a hit, the next year they asked her to make a few more...and then more...until she was making 1,200 of them for a three-day bazaar, and they still sold out!

1 dozen (change servings and units)

Ingredients

Directions

  1. 1
Combine sugar, corn syrup, water, butter, and salt in a saucepan.
  2. 2
Cook over medium-high heat to hard ball stage.
  3. 3
Remove from heat and add vanilla.
  4. 4
    Pour over popcorn.
  5. 5
When cool enough to handle, form into balls with buttered hands.
