Pms Bars

Another variation of those famous magic layer bars, this one gets it's title from the combination of salty, sweet, crunchy, and creamy (Which is what most of us chickies clamor for when having an "attack". I think some of my male coworkers pretend to suffer from PMS occasionally, just so I'll bring them a pan of these treats!

24 bars (change servings and units)

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs

  • 1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk (I use fat-free)
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup peanut butter chip
  • 1 cup vanilla chip
  • 1 cup broken salted pretzel (thin pretzels are preferable)

Directions

  1. 1
    Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. 2
Melt butter in 13x9" pan in the oven.
  3. 3
Remove from oven and sprinkle graham cracker crumbs over butter.
  4. 4
Mix well and press firmly into bottom of pan.
  5. 5
Pour condensed milk evenly over crust.
  6. 6
Sprinkle chips over condensed milk (each flavor individually, or mix them together in a bowl first).
  7. 7
Sprinkle broken pretzels over chips, and press everything down firmly with a spatula or fork.
  8. 8
Bake for 25-30 minutes (edges should brown a bit).
  9. 9
For best results, cool in pan completely before cutting into bars.
  10. 10
Optional: Serve with Diet Coke (the ladies will best understand this suggestion).

Sweet and salty what could be better? I love "hello dollie bars" but I think I love these a little bit more. I thought the combo of everything together was perfect. Take my advice, use a non stick baking pan for this recipe, I didn't and I was really sorry when they became almost cemented to the pan. After using every spatula I own, I was able to remove them all with only a couple of casualities- which I quickly ate! I will make this again. Thanks!

I had hoped the pretzel salt flavor would be more pronounced, but I think it got a little lost with all the sweet chips. These weren't my favorite, but a few of my friends seemed to like them, which is why I posted 4 stars to give them the benefit of the doubt. However, I won't make them again unless I get a request.

Warning: This is a very dangerous recipe to have around unless you have someone to help you eat these absolutely wonderful bars!!! DD and I just slivered away at the pan till they were gone!! The blending of flavors was quite good, includes all of my favorites. Thank you for this great treat!!

I made these for a group of my friends at a BBQ. They were a huge success. It was almost a mistake making them, because now everyone asks me to make them. I am happy to oblige, because this is such an easy recipe and by melting the butter in the pan, there is no extra cleanup.
