This recipe is a variation of the famed New Orleans Sazerac that many claim was the first drink to be dubbed a cocktail. The traditional rye whiskey has been replace with pear vodka. I found this in an April 2007 Washington Post and have yet to try it.

SERVES 1 , 1 cocktail (change servings and units)

Ingredients

  • 1/2 ounce anise-flavored liqueur (such as Pernod, or other pastis or absinthe)
  • 2 ounces pear vodka (recommended Grey Goose La Poire)
  • 1/2 ounce simple syrup
  • 3 dashes Angostura bitters
  • 1 pear, wedge for garnish
  • ice

Directions

  1. 1
Place an ice cube in a martini glass and add the anise-flavored liqueur.
  2. 2
Swirls to coat the glass let stand to chill for a few minutes.
  3. 3
Meanwhile, fill a cocktail shaker with ice.
  4. 4
Add the pear vodka, simple syrup and bitters, stirring vigorously.
  5. 5
Empty the ice and liqueur from the glass.
  6. 6
Strain pear vodka mixture into the coated martini glass.
  7. 7
    Garnish with the pear wedge.
